Just got back from Cornwall where I had a stone hit the windscreen and now I've got a neat 30cm vertical crack in it.
Just wanted to know if people have used Autoglass (my insurers preferred installer) and how good they were (or not) or another company (London area)?
Difference between Autoglass and a.n.other company is just £30 to me.

Our only experience with Autoglass is when they had to replace the door glass in our Mercedes... First they brought the wrong colour tint, then they said it would be 2-3 days to get the right colour. The guy who turned up seemed in a hurry and wasn't happy when I asked him to get as much broken glass out of the door as possible (Didn't want the sound of tinkling glass everytime I closed the door! We also had further problems once he'd fitted it... It wasn't the best of experiences, but to be fair, it could have just been a bad day for the fitter.
Some people have mentioned problems with water leaks after getting screen replaced, so lets hope whoever you get does the job properly. As you slide down the banister of life

I had problems with Autowindscreens, not fixing the window in properly, then snapping a couple of clips. Various threads report the same.

autoglass replaced a FL1 side glass after it was smashed by some yobbo
The glass they used rattled in place, they eventually replaced it with a LR piece of glass and said theres was a fraction thinner than the OEM LR ones and that caused the rattle.
Makes me wonder if the replacement windscreens would be any better for any company other than LR ones

Tell your insurer you want a LR approved windscreen and fitter to fit it. You paid enough for the D3 to want it kept in best condition. Also, if there are leaks etc, LR could very easily dispute any warranty claim based on a badly fitted windscreen. I bet any glass fitter would tell you to frack off if you tried to claim for a repair from them following bad fitting.
You pay them for a service they provide you... not the other way round.
If they argue, tell them you'll change insurer next time you renew... especially if you have another vehicle insured with them.

AutoGlass (Romford) depot have (in the last 5 years) replaced windscreens for me on a Mondeo, a Rover 75 and on a MGZT. They have also repaired windscreen chips. On each occasion I used them because they were my Insurer's preferred supplier/fitter rather than as a personal choice. Looking back, I would have to say that they did a good tidy job on the replacements and I didn't have any problems with rattles nor leaks.
However, I think Simon's advice is very sound (as usual ). Well worth a phonecall and argument with the insurers in my view. Might be worth a call to Nick at Yeovil first to find out which Company they (LR dealers) have an arrangement with regarding fitting replacement windscreens - I presume dealers would get someone in to do the work rather than use their own staff.
Hope the crack didn't spoil your holiday John!

LRCC would be a good call, my dealer use their own chap and as such warrant his work and have in the past got me a replacement screen post fitting a new one as it leaked. Due to a small area of sealant not bonding correctly (removing a screen being a destructive process).
No charge to me, not sure if they paid for the screen or LR... but customer got a result which is whet they were after.
Bought my 3rd LR from them in Jan (current D3 XS).

you won't find any dealer with their own windscreen fitter...unless a techy used to do it in a past life...or they have their own bodyshop.
most will sub out to a local fitter/company that they have built up a relationship with over time..
we don't use one of the large company's as you never get them same guy twice...difficult to build trust when no consistancy... TLO has left the building.......

I am guessing if you have a heated front screen its also more of a challenge!
A guy at work had autoglass come out and do his 5series, he was there for a while, think it was first he had done as he took ages to work out the scuttle trim and engine bay bits (there were a few).
I think its a bit of a roulette, this guy clearly was learning as he went but he did a pukka job in the end, but in the end you could get a good or bad guy.
With a screen as large/complicated (heated, rain sensors etc) as a Disco, I think I would go the extra effort to find a way to get it done by someone who had done one before, if it were me... Disco3 is now gone but not forgotten. Waiting for Disco6 with full aluminium construction weight reduction and hybrid engine...
