Anybody using an Arrid twincharge?
http://www.arrid.com.au/twin.html
Looks like a good idea since it is basically a DC/DC converter with a 3 mode lead acid battery charger. It is not weather proof (has an open fan) so would need care in mounting location. Should manage the Aux battery better than all the parallel isolators currently available. Finally it shouldn't mess with the D3 electrics (as we have been warned by drivesafe) since it is just an auxliary load on the main battery (kind of like plugging something into one of the aux power sockets provided by LR).
I am considering a large capacity sealed battery in the rear compartment. If I go ahead with this then there are a number of advantages:
1. Better environment for a battery (cooler)
2. Aux battery is close to most of the auxilary load items (fridge, UHF/HF radios, camera chargers, etc) so less voltage drop
3. Less cables running front to rear, less holes in from the outside to facilitate those cables
4. Less restriction on battery choice (physical size, type, and capacity)
Any comments/suggestions?
