Has anyone fitted a Witter Multi Height Tow Bar ?
I have just purchased a Witter Multi height fixed tow bar from ebay.
The quality is fantastic however I have a question regarding the fitting of the side arms as looking at the instructions the left and the right ones seem the wrong way round, also the Witter sticker is upside down on one of the arms when I fit the side arms in the way that fits best, the question is am I missing something / being overly cautious / doing something wrong ???
Car is a MY12 D4
Thanks in advance
Paul

yes
they only go on one way so i wouldn't worry about what the sticker says.
Put the back plate on then bolt the site stays on loosely and see which way they want to go to meet up with the chassis
CCmay the odds be ever in your favor

I have the Witter multi height tow bar fitted. My main gripe is twofold. Firstly, it is not really multi height as the thing hangs down reminiscent of the days when Land Rovers would have towed a plough. I have found that I can only use the lowest setting unless I start cutting away at bumper etc.
The second problem is that Witter do not clean the steel adequately before painting or plastic coating it so after two years it is flaking off badly due to rust under the paint. For a product like this to stand a chance with paint it really needs to be blast cleaned immediately before application of surface protection to give a long lasting key to the finish.
Best of luck with it and if you can figure out how to raise it I would be interested.
Regards,
George

Chopcat - thanks for the post, its what I thought, but thought it would be best to check
George - i think for the price £168 delivered, I am willing to give it a go, if the paint flakes I will get it blasted and powder coated. With regard to the height I understand what you mean, but I purchased it to replace the standard detachable as I wanted a little more piece of mind when towing my twin axle car trailer with my Westfield kit car on it, as I would hate to see it part company with the Disco down the motorway

I can see where you are coming from; i bought on price and didn't want a defective item from ebay et al. If I get the time I will look into modifying the bars as I really want to keep the tow bar on whilst driving off road. Will post my thoughts on modifying bar when I get round to looking at it seriously before heading to Morocco in Autumn.
I presume I have bought the same one as you for the same reasons

The tow bar was a bargain, and I fully understand you get what you pay for, but my initial thoughts are it is a very well made bit of kit and I am fully expecting to have to powder coat the support arms in a couple of years, but that could be the same for the genuine LR kit at over twice the price.
Overall i would have no hesitation in recommending the Witter bar
Planning to fit mine on Sunday - sure it will be a bit more than the supposed 30 minsD4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

30 mins is about right, just be careful not to loose the chassis tube into the chassis rail and make sure the bolt sits in the cut out (will become apparent when you fit it) I had to shave a couple of mm off the tube to make it sit properly. Other than that very easy to fit
Good luck
