She mentioned the British Medical Journal issuing a health warning on 4x4s.
I have read the report, which was summarised in the media, and it uses data from the US Fatal Accident Reporting system database related to light trucks or vans (which it adds many of which are SUV’s) to claim that:
“Results show that, for the same collision speed, the likelihood of a pedestrian fatality is nearly doubled in the event of a collision with a large SUV compared to a passenger car.â€
However, on examining the National Statistics covering Road Casualties in Great Britain for 2004 on the basis of distance driven LGVs (i.e. light trucks or vans) only have 57% of the pedestrian fatality rate of cars on urban roads and 43% of the pedestrian fatality rate of cars on rural roads.

She also mentioned the TRL report claiming it showed 4x4 were dangerous. However, once again she is being extremely selective.
The report reference number TRL629 shows the following:
Fatality rate for 4x4s is 23 per million cars, the average for all cars is 63 per million cars and the worst group is minis and superminis at 75 per million cars.
The killed and seriously injured rate for 4x4s is 350 per million cars, the average for all cars is 670 per million cars and the worst group is minis and superminis at 800 per million cars.

Zig,
Enough said... lets put this to bed and stop rising to the anti mob.
There are anti everything these days and it just makes no sense what so ever to play into their hands and debate here on DISCO3.
We are a 4 x 4 site and no matter what we say to each other here will make not a dots difference to them.
If you want to campaign take it to them on their forums.
We are all innocent in our vehicle choice. Its a free country. Go to 4x4antis.com or whatever and tell them directly.
