Mine still has the woosh a year on, wondered if it was just me having a bad connection but checked them and all seemed ok.

Which compressor AMK, AMK clone, Bearmach, Dunlop or Hitachi
Amber suspension light has started to come on so I read the fault code C1A20 "Pressure increases too slowly when filling reservoir" - looks like a compressor issue or an air leak.
On an engine restart the light goes off.
Suspension will then lowers/raises OK and compressor runs but the amber light eventually comes back on.
Its a 2005 model and has done 85000 miles on its original Hitachi compressor - not bad! A record?
I took the compressor cover off and checked it and the reservoir with soapy water - no bubbles.
It looks like a new compressor is needed. I have a BBS MSV2 so can re-flash if necessary.
Looking around there now seems to be many different compressors available.
(A few years back there was only Hitachi which kept life simple)
There are :-
eBay clones of the Hitachi type for £200.
Britpart Hitachi clones and AMK clones there are several different models.
On Paddocks website there is only a Hitachi clone made by Dunlop.
There seems to be 2 versions of the AMK compressor. LR045251 and LR061663
Advanced Factors have a kit by Bearmach (which is a AMK clone?)
As you casn see I am a bit confused about which compressor to order?
Any advice would be most welcomed.

Compressor Mounting holes/lugs
OK I decided to go for the OEM AMK compressor kit that Britpart supplies. Got it from Paddocks.
Arrived today - old compressor now off - yes the captive bolts sheared.
I ordered new captive bolts BEFORE I ordered the compressor but they haven't arrived so at a standstill!
Looking at my compressor none of the mounting holes either for the rubber mounting or for the temperature sensor strap are threaded.
Strange I would have thought for £620 they could have threaded the holes!
Looks like I will need to tap the holes before I can go any further or do the bolts supplied cut their own threads?
Apart from that the kit looks fine -its not assembled i.e. the compressor is not mounted on the bracket etc.
Is this the normal way they come?

I asked Britpart about why the compressor mounting holes were not tapped.
Their reply below.
"The screws supplied in the kit to fix the compressor to the housing are self-tapping, these will form their own thread into the aluminium compressor housing.
Land Rover use the same method but they supply the compressor already fitted to the bracket.
The reason being that this gives a more secure fixing and less likelihood of the screws becoming loose under vibration, without the need for application of a Loctite sealer or similar thread locker."
I think Britpart should include the above information with each compressor kit they sell.

Is it possible to know which type of compressor you have without removing it? Are there any identifying points on the outside of the plastic casing? For example, some of the guides I’ve seen show 3 bolts to remove the lower plastic housing, yet mine has a bolt in the centre but torx screws either side.
I’d just like to order the right bits before I strip it down, as the car is still working at the moment, albeit only in normal height mode. Don’t really want to strip it and then have it off the road until the new parts arrive. I wondered if the torx screws were a clue that my 2008MY has already been upgraded to AMK.D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

If I was a betting man I'd say yours is an AMK, but to be sure you will need to remove the lower cover. Its just a few bolts, hex torx or otherwise its not much more difficult than taking the cover off a 3 pin plug to change a fuse!

Hi
The visible pipe work is totally different on the Hitachi and AMK compressors.
On the Hitachi the air pipes go in at the front.
On the AMK they are at the rear.

Looks like mine is a Hitachi after all. Two pipes appear to enter at the rear and don’t appear to be cut or joined. Is there any reason NOT to replace like for like with another hitachi type? It seems that the current one has lasted 10 yrs, and with some reports of the AMK ones lasting only 2 yrs maybe I’ll just swap it like for like. My old car 2004MY went to 152k and 9 years and I never had to change it, and being an early one would’ve been Hitachi I imagine.

Anyone got any thoughts on replacing hitachi type with like for like? The trend in this thread seems to be to upgrade, but also some reports of early failures. Is it wrong to stick with the hitachi type?
Also, has anyone had success with the £180-£200 ones on eBay? I’m certain they’re Chinese copies, but if they work well...D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

It seems the AMK unit was seen as an improvement on the Hitachi unit. I have to say I find the AMK v good with little or no trouble. My own is in its tenth year and other than periodic inspection and desiccant replacement I can't fault it. I also know of one other 06 D3 still on its Hitachi.
If you change from the Hitachi you will need to upgrade the software as well though!

Indeed. Hence my feeling to stick to a hitachi type for now. ThanksD3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Hi Dave, what`s the update of your compressor? I got the same problem as you described but happened after I updated the AMK compressor, that said, changing compressor alone didn`t fix the problem at all, even after I updated the software in stealer.

Just changed mine 4 days ago. Went for an eBay hitachi type for £184 and it was visibly identical to the LR one coming off. It went on fine and seems to work well. All warning lights gone and running well. I know it’s only a cheap copy but it seems okay so far. Will see how long it lasts. The one I took off was a second hand but genuine LR one though so must have been changed by past owner. It was covered in the typical white paint pen writing you get at breakers yards.D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Hi all,
About to buy yet another AMK compressor. Is there any consensus on which one is the best? There seem to be several different takes on the AMK. Some have a black painted mounting plate (Arnott). Others like the one available from AF (https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/lr045251r-bearmach-amk-replacement-air-suspension-compressor-kit-lr072537-1081980-p.asp) have a bare metal mounting plate (as does my current one which didn't last 3 years with very low mileage).
I bought my current one from Matford which is described as "LLR061663 D06E07A KIT - COMPR" on the invoice and "KIT COMPRESSOR 9H32-2877-AE" on the parts list that came with the compressor kit.
None of these identifiers match the code shown on the AF product page "LR045251R" (although "LR061663R" is shown in the "MPN" section of this page). The AF one is made by Bearmach I believe but no idea if this is the same or different to my current one. On the plus side though it comes with a 3 year warranty.
Any success stories of one or another type out there?
