Alternator?

Driving to work this morning the battery warning light came on. After work i could not access vehicle as central locking wouldn't work. Does anyone know how to pull the bonnet so I can check the battery connections/ alternator?. I have removed the passenger side lock cover and tried using the key, but nothing happens when I turn it?!

The easy way if you have tow electrics is to attach a charger via the N+S socket and open the car normally.

Ok, still presuming you have tow electrics connect pin:

3 = NEG

4 = POS

to the white 12S plug socket.

Is not the key hole lock mechanical?

I thought the key hole lock was mechanical and hence no battery power was needed to at least unlock and be able to open that door.

One just rotates the metal key blank and pulls on the door handle and at least that door opens. The other three doors do not unlock, nor the rear hatch, but the key hole door does unlock and one can open it and effect entry.

Am I wrong?

Yep, passenger's door lock is mechanical and just unlocks that door. Perhaps if they're never used they seize up? May be worth a load of WD40 (but not risking a broken key though).

Mechanical unlock, good!

Thanks for the conformation re the left front door key hole being totally mechanical. I never tried it with the battery disconnect so was not certain. I do exercise it, (maybe once a year), as yes, lack of use would probably lead to it not rotating when you need it.

Test locking and unlocking also provides practice in removal and reinstall of the cover.

In the North America spec vehicles, the ley hole is located in what we would call the drivers door, hence me referring to it as the left front door.
