Adjustable height sensor rod

I'm trying to make an adjustable rod by using a carbon fiber rod and tube.

My idea is to have a 5mm rod inserted in each rubber mount and a tube with 5mm inner diameter between them. It will have 2 holes with a clip pin 10mm apart, making it height adjustable by sliding the rod in the tube and moving the pin.

The problem is with the rear rod, which is very short: At the offroad setting the distance between the 2 rubber mounts is just 15mm, which will be the maximum length of the outer tube. This leaves little room for a 10mm adjustment. So I was thinking: Maybe I could make the rod a couple of millimeters longer, lowering the car a couple of centimeters. If shortening the rod 10mm makes it 50mm higher, 5 mm longer rods should lower it approximately 25mm? Does anyone have any experience with this?
