Adblue Problem 2016 Landmark, Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing MF |

Just managed to get my EPB fixed and now the next thing - I think it’s caused by crystallisation of adblu fluid on the adblu injector - any ideas on how I can remove it and clean it if indeed that is the problem. Now telling me that I have 330miles until no starts !! Totally ridiculous approach given the lack of available Landrover servicing in UK. Not much on YouTube covering the D4 adblu
Anyone have a view on Adblue delete

Various things being considered- mobile mechanic tells me that the level sensor in the adblue tank has failed which is showing empty on his diagnostic - he also told me he brimmed the adblue and I have read elsewhere that disco 4 brimmed tanks read empty.
In addition have this morning tried to remove the able injector but this failed after discovering whoever installed it place the Allen key head on the top so between the exhaust and the body making it impossible to remove the bolt to take the sensor off and see if it is bunged up with crystalised adblue.
Mobile mechanic has said that I should have a remap and delete the as blue from the ECU but I’m worried that this will mean MOT’s are a problem and also mess up the DPF.
Owning a discovery is precisely that a voyage of discovery !

Yes, completely brimming, without an air gap, the Adblue tank causes problems as you state. Here is a message from a well respected forum member and Land Rover specialist garage owner, Steve Norman:

I have already had to drain some Range Rover sport and evoque tanks due to this.
When filling correctly, using SDD, it displays the quantity needed to fill to the correct amount. This should be added, and no more. Sometimes a couple of attempts are needed to get the total amount right.
I suspect that, as this is a bit time consuming, some places don’t do it fully.
I remember reading a service message on Topix stating that dealers should not use the small bottles, as it’s a waste of money, and should use the corrrect filling tank special tool.

Managed to do that quite easily - drop the spare wheel and the adbllue tank sits directly above the wheel. Even more thoughtful is that there is a little rubber pipe with a clipped end cover which you can use to discharge about 2l of the adblue. Put the car on my new autel diagnostic and bummer tank still shows empty even though there is now an air gap. So potential problems are - crystallised injector, failed pump, or failed level sensor in the tank.- now down to 320 miles until no engine starts. Dash showing 320 miles of range on Diesel Exhaust Fluid . This is a real pain. I am also slightly worried that the Adblue tank got damaged when the EPB module was replaced. Anyway mobile mechanic recommends adblue delete which is llooking increasingly attractive

Thanks for sharing. Not got any experience of this, but just a thought. Have you taken the filler cap off to let air in? Just wondering if draining from underneath may have caused a vacuum.

Great minds think alike - I drained the tank with the cap off so that it was free to draw in air. Thks for the thoughtful comment

I have a similar problem with my 2016 Landmark.
First the 540mile countdown appeared when the level was low (but still a surprise as I had 2000 miles on previous check a week before. Filled the level and had a devil of a time getting the sensor to reset. Finally it went back to 19000mmiles and all was well.
Today on a long drive the message popped up again with 540 miles countdown. I knew this was wrong as last week was showing 16000 odd miles on the dash readout. So I stopped and added some AdBlue despite being convinced it did not need and sure enough after 3 litres it was over full.
twice whilst on the rest of the journey the warning disappeared and then reappeared . My Gap tool shows overfilled but the dash readout shows 19000 odd miles.
So I am pretty convinced the sensor is out of action intermittently. Interesting you mention the EPB as I too have had to dismantle the ad blue tank to get at the EPB nightmare to replace it, so I wonder of some wiring has been dislodged or broken?
The added challenge is that I cannot find any online reference to a replacement sensor.
Y=This is a critical fault as each time it occurs the countdown to no start commences. So far it has "reset" a couple of times but that is no peace of mind at all.
One last thing i recently checked the injector for crystallisation and there was barely none perhaps as the truck is always on the dual carriageway etc.
I think once I find a replacement sensor I will fit that as for me it points to an intermittent failure of the ultrasonic silly sensor Defender Td5 Alive Tuned

Hi, We've had the same problem on the same model.
I couldn't clear it with GAP tool, and find anyway to drain tank, to refill again, in case overfilled.
Local indy, checked it and it said it needed 1 litre, but it was full to brim, so checked with another tool and it told him to remove 3 litres, and another 3ltr, in total 8 ltrs removed.
All of this is strange, as it was serviced in January, where adblue was topped up, yet warning came up 6 months later.

The adblue system is a nightmare - it uses a sonic sensor to measure the tank capacity and if the tank is brimmed the sensor doesn’t work. There also problems with the injectors and then to have such a dumb system that actually electronically stops the car after a certain amount of running is insane. I have also found that most LR service centres don’t know how to service the adblue system or recognise the low mileage requirements. Not that I am an advocate of this (wink wink) but the only sustainable solution appears to be to have an ECU delete of the ADBLUE system.

This may or may not help but I had the same warning on my 2017 Velar. Counting down to 0 checked Ad Blue and it took roughly 12 litres. Took it to my local independent who had previous experience of said warning. Turned out my was a split dosing pipe to the engine, sorry can not be any clearer. Replaced pipe and cleaned injector. So far so good but pipe cost just over £200. Range Rover Velar HSE First Edition
