6 Speed auto box swap

OK i'm having to replace the torque converter and gearbox on my 55 plate D3.
I can't afford at this time the £4500 price of a recon box and TC. Big Cry

so this leaves me two options.
1, scrap my D3 (not really an option as it's just had an MOT and better the devil you know)
2 fit a second hand unit to get me through until i can get the job done properly

so i'm doing option 2
the questions are what will I need to get other than the replacement box?
so far I've got on my list
Sump and filter oil kit (JGS)
connector sleeve
O rings for the cooler pipes
manifold studs, nuts and gasket.
anything else?

i'm getting a transmission floor jack, 4 ramps (like Bodsy's ones)
i've got an extensive tool kit so should have everything i need there.

it's going to be done this way as its all I can afford at this time, and yes i would love to be able to fit new/recon units.

any items i've missed, tools i may need or advice would be very much appreciated
and if anyone is in Cheshire fancy's coming to help? bacon buttiees, home made cake and brews supplied Bow down

I would fit a plastic sump (if cheaper), while off the car. Will seal better.

Only problem will be , if you find you need to swap the megatronics unit once fitted (if electrical issues )

yes sump kit ordered from JGS and was planning on swapping it to the new box after swapping the mechatronic unit.
the reason for change is the Torque converter is going badly (DR Tranny for a few years now)

Out of interest have you tried to double flush the box - I have done this with great success in the past on D3s with 6 speed boxes.

I buy large containers of the Mannol AG55 off Ebay then do a First flush with Filos's method, then a week or two later do it again and add the ShudderFix / Dr Tranny gloop.

Not had a problem since with the 4 Ive done it with...
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

it's getting so really bad now and it's had about 4-5 Dr Tranny added.
so better off biting the bullet and getting TC replaced, with the gearbox as i've been told the TC going can send bits into the box.

If your box is good, I would reuse it.

A lot of failed zf6 gearboxes around, so better stick with a trusted one I would think.

now I'm getting confused with confllicting advice.

yes the gearbox seems to work ok, but being told that with the TC going once changed usually takes out the gearbox?
plus with all this Dr T in the system wouldn't that cause gearbox problems when replaced with new oil?

I worry that you are installing a gearbox that is in unknown condition. But upto you, what you want to do

Yes I see your point.
Luckily the gearbox condition is known and under 6 months warranty.
The place I'm getting from has looked after the donor car until the engine failed.
But I'll get more info on that when I go to collect it.

I'm with those that indicate it's better to use a known box, yours. Just replace TC and you could get a solenoid and seal kit to refurbish your box while it is out. This would give you the opportunity to flush the box out while it's open.
