255/60 R20 Duratracs
Anybody fitted these? It's the new size for the Defender. I have read a post on a SA forum where somebody has fitted the 19" version, same overall size, to their D4.
Wondered whether it had been done over here...

I actually read the same thread Phil when looking for feedback on the tyres!
I wondered more about the sizing in particular in relation to the D4, as it's bigger than the standard fitment. I'm hoping to get more sidewall without dropping down a wheel size.
Let me know how you get on with this Joe and whether you have to add lift rods or re-calibrate anything as I'm considering the same purchase
Thanks, Andy

I’m getting my mate to order one in to check the fit Andy, so will report back.
I think they will fit but I’m not so sure about the spare.

I'm running 255/55/20 Grabber AT3 on my D4 and have to have the spare pretty deflated to fit so I doubt you would get a 255/60/20 to fit even fully deflated. Don't forget your compressor if you do manage it!Stu

I found this site to be really useful Joe https://tiresize.com/comparison/ it allows you to see what would fit without adjustment to your speedo, etc. I've just managed to pick up a second hand set of 255/55/19 Duratracs on 19" wheels pretty cheap via eBay which will work with no adjustment so I'm a happy boy

@ AndyButch. Topic owner is looking for more sidewall hight, so overall circumference will be different.
But that is easy to adjust on a LR in the CCF, although a IID needed...
I have a circumference 31.6". Fitted, works ok! No rubbing, no problems with bumpstops..
But bigger, would give problems with lowering on bumpstops i think..
On a early D3 that is, think they have more room than a D4
So calculate 255/60/20. Will give 32”.
Not the definitive answer, BUT as someone can tell, if the early D3 have the same wheels space as a D4, then You have your answer... but in my mind a D4 has a piece of chassis in the way...(so slightly less room) but maybe some one can prove me wrongBest regards

I run 285/50 R20 Zeon LTZ on my D4 and have had no problems apart from can't get them anymore.
I originally wanted a higher sidewall but at the time the only other option was a 255/55R20 General Grabber.
Speedo runs bang on as verified by GPS and wheel protection is fantastic.
It's time to change tyres again and unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to buy General Grabbers as the Goodyear Duratrac is more an MT tyre than an AT.
Anyone know of any decent alternatives for a true 50/50 AT tyre? Not any of these Mickey mouse ATs.

Unfortunately MotoLab is correct - no cigar on fitment I'm afraid!
I made a template to check and it hits the "frame horn"/chassis outrigger or whatever it's called in the wheel well. It also just touches the bolt for the mudflap but that wouldn't be so much of a concern.
I'm not sure I want to get involved with trimming back that section of the chassis and welding on a new plate to cover it. I understand on D3s and early D4s it wasn't protruding or even removable?

Went through all that years ago on my then new MY11 D4.
Took the 285/50/20 LTZs off the D3 and had the same fouling on that D4 outrigger (fitted to later model D3s and all D4s, but not early D3s).
Was at Prospeed and looking for them to grind off & weld the outrigger.
But they came up with the idea of fitting steering stops.
They engineered them and fitted them to the rack whilst I was there (and they went on to add them to their range).
It just limits the amount of lock so it doesn't hit the outrigger.
Only thing I really noticed was that rather than drive straight into a supermarket car slot, you had to give it two goes ..... was no big deal for me, as I don't really do supermarkets!...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Interesting, I'll check and see if they come in a 55 profile.
Thanks!

Not sure how true it is, but did read that the outrigger was there to deflect a wheel from coming through the firewall in the event of an accident.
So if it is true, there's no way I'd remove it.2014 D4 XS

@ J@mes
So on a D3 (atleast the most of them) that will be the issue? Doubt that.....
Never heard/read that it was an issue/dangerous on the D3 ...
I could be wrong, but i am not starting to worry now Best regards
