255 x 55 x 18 alloy wheels |
|
Hi,
Bit of advice needed please.
Just changed from my base model 17'' alloy's, to some 18'' RR sport wheels...@ 255 x 55 x 18
My spare is still the 235 x 70 x 17. If I have to use the spare, will it cause problems being overall slightly bigger?
Thanks. http://www.island-weather.co.uk

Excellent
Well the smaller wheel will want to rotate ever so slightly faster than the others but as I'm sure TFC will confirm the suspension should sort out the difference for you enough for short term use. Obviously I would recommend that you get the 18" repaired asap and take speed and handling into consideration. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

basically no different to using a 'space saver' spare but without the stupid (can't spell ridiculous ) speed restriction...
the suspension won't sort out any difference in diameter, the sensors only measure wishbone - to - chassis differences, not absolute height, therefore, one corner will be slightly lower whilst you're using the spare although I think you'd be hard pushed to notice on road...
also note that the speedo may be slightly out - check against the GPS speed signal to get a measure on it
Echo DG, just use it as a spare and drive with caution until you get the matching one repaired looks good too

no worries Chris - I realised why it was leaking last night - no vulcanising fluid on the inside edges of the plug
