2013 discovery 4 hse

Hello,
On the ceiling near the middle row seats, there seems to be a little boxed in air conditioning unit with three small covered-up openings. Is that for air conditioning system? Do you know why the three valves are covered? Is this an extra option on LR ?
Tbere is a picture of it on page 61 in the owners handbiok and it is called rear climate control.
Thanks

I must admit to being a little cheated when i climbed into the back of my 2013 Lux and found the similar blanked off box... especially when comparing it to my 2008 HSE Disco which not only has rear climate control and individual vents but also independant volume controls and aux jacks not only for the rear seat passengers but also for the rear rear seat passengers...

Feel i've been short changed! Big Cry

The point I was trying to make was that as a model progresses it normally evolves. What it appears to have done in this case is on grounds of cost cutting JLR have pushed the delete button. As for your advice I'm sure the dealer would be fantastically happy with a customer scrolling down every single fitted component to see if they are still fitted. As it was a 13 year model the dealer doesnt also know what the factory deletes until he has a car physical. Especially by speccing the Lux version you would not anticipate to see a dashboard of blanking plugs. Maybe you're right?

I thought the rear air-con and aux sockets went ages ago? It's not just a MY13 thing. The specs of these cars has been ever changing since 2004!

The dealer would know from the vehicle specification sheet at the time of order exactly what it has or does not have....so if you had asked then they could have told you Wink

Different features appear in different market regions ...for example the Booster heater is not fitted in warmer climate countries. Are these things done on the basis of cost cutting ? ...or are they done on the basis of overall 'need' in the region.

At one time in the UK rear aircon was fitted as standard...then it was an option ...but if as an option it is rarely selected then why not delete it Confused ...market forces see Wink Thumbs Up

Good point well made... still disappointing on a car with a list price of £61000 that there is a big plastic box with blanking caps in the middle of the roof that serves no purpose. Why not remove it totally and create a uk spec headlining? Only my opinion... can't help thinking that... And before the rest of you shoot me down as a non Land Rover owner and advise me to go and buy a toyota instead i feel i need to list my credentials... i actually own four of them and have had them for years including 2 p38's (which contrary to popular misconception have been the most reliable cars and never let me down. One i've owned for fifteen years and 150,000 miles) and two Disco's a D3 G4 and a HSE Lux. So hopefully i'm qualified to have an opinion.... Tangiers Orange

Of course you are qualified to have an opinion Smile ...but opinions generally encourage qualified or factual responses or additional opinions which may or may not always align with yours Wink Don't take it to heart ..it's what happens on forums Laughing Thumbs Up

As for the plastic box ...I don't sit in the back so have never really taken much notice Whistle . But would your passengers really look up and say "ooo look there's something missing" ? Smile

Actually thats exactly what happened.. my passengers used to travelling in the back of the G4 with individual heating controls were actually moaning when travelling in the back of the D4 that all their controls have now been removed.. Now have to turn the fantastic stereo up to drown out their moaning! So i'm voicing their opinions not mine..Best you tell the missus she can't have an opinion cos i'm not brave enough..
