Wales 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 GS Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3
2007 Disco GS

Evening all,

After a long time lurking, I am finally a Disco 3 owner!

2007
GS Manual
2 owners (last one for 9 years)
189,000 miles
Extensive History (front and rear belts/clutch and flywheel/wishbones/compressor etc etc )

The underside is weirdly one of the cleanest I have seen, despite the mileage. The chassis is still original black with just patches of light surface corrosion. I viewed another disco 3 a coupe of days ago with just 90,000 miles on it and it looked like it had lived in the bottom of the ocean it’s entire life.

The owner was an utter gent too, so it made sense to buy this one as I feel you buy the buyer with these kinds of vehicles - he was so open and honest and just a genuine guy.

It’s the first vehicle I’ve bought with this kind of mileage, but from plenty of research, kindly provided by this forum, I’ve bought on condition and history, not age and mileage.

The plans are to get the underside wax oiled - so I will be taking plenty of pictures of how clean it it, then giving it a coat. It would be crazy to not wax oil it when it’s in such brilliant condition underneath.

There’s a couple of ‘to do’ things on my list, as any enthusiast would want done.

.2 front tyres were advisories on the MOT, so they need replacing ASAP.
.Full fluid change for peace of mind (diffs/box/engine)
.Dog guard
.Snorkel

That’s the short term ‘to do’ list, then I’ll get into the ‘want’ list.

Thank you for reading, more pictures when I’ve given it a once over.

Gez.

Cheers both Very Happy

Yes, both front and rear belts have been done, oil pump to the front and the diesel pump at the rear - I’ve got a hefty invoice of £2,110 just 4 months ago for the belts etc.

Stretched the buses legs today to get familiar with it. No faults to report - and a surprising 34mpg achieved over about 160 miles today.

After a check over today, the two front tyres inner edges are a lot worse than first thought, so they’ll be getting changed immediately now. The Disco is currently running on 235/70-17 Cooper Discoverer AT3’s - so I’ll replace the front two with the same.

More pictures to come Smile

A couple of thoughts...

34 mpg - was that read from the car or calculated. The car's display is usually very optomistic.

You say:-

both front and rear belts have been done, oil pump to the front

I don't want to be pedantic, but a new pump was fitted, not just belts?

Enjoy the car Thumbs Up

Cheers all..!

I managed 160 miles yesterday as a test day, to make sure it’s ready for the daily duties.

I must say, with all the horror stories and issues read on here, I do feel like I’ve just let myself in for financial suicide. I find myself listening for any mechanical noise, I haven’t turned the radio on yet Laughing

I’ve never owned a vehicle with this mileage, so I’m just super cautious - it seems even buying one that you think has been cared for will still throw up some surprises.

I’m just easing myself in slowly.

Update 23/01/2020

Placed a big order with Advanced Factors today.

I’ve ordered every filter possible and every oil possible for the Disco.

I’ve managed 1,000 miles trouble free so far, so it’s time to have confidence and start spending on the bus for its 200,000 milestone.

I’ve ordered the best service pack of Mahle and Delphi filters. I opted for the Mobile 1 Ford recommended oil spec. Also, Castrol diff and transfer oils.

Update with pictures when all the items arrive.

I best get reading the ‘how to’ guides sharpish.

Update:

193,000 miles and running better than ever. I can’t stop driving this amazing bus.

Front and rear diffs serviced
Engine oil and filter replaced
Transfer box oil replaced
Gearbox oil replaced
Pollen filter
Air filter

I can’t believe I’ve managed to do 4,500 miles already. The dog loves it and the Mrs even grabs the keys for it.

Well... 6 months ownership has flown by..

MOT day... being a ‘high miler’ I was expecting a couple of things on an advisory sheet.

196,100 today and the only advisory I’ve had is the rear brake pipes, so they’re booked in to be replaced ASAP. No point sitting on an advisory for 12 months.

13 years old and almost 200K and she’s still going strong!

The tester commented on how good the underside is also! So that’s a nice compliment to back up my initial thoughts on when I purchased it also. I couldn’t get over how good the underside was myself back then.

Absolutely chuffed.
