Wheel alignment
My new D3 has wear on the inside edges of both front tyres. The steering wheel is also slightly to the right, maybe 5-10 degrees in the straight ahead position (this really annoys me!).
I have found a place that can do an alignment for me on a Hunter type machine and figured this will sort both issues, but then having a read tonight I stumbled across some threads on the steering angle sensor. If I am just getting an alignment done and the straight ahead position corrected on the steering wheel will I need to do anything like re-calibrating this sensor? I havent got diagnostics yet, but will be getting them.

When you have a 4 wheel alignment done you must follow this up with a steering angle sensor recalibration.
Failure to do so will result in a whole host of bells, whistles, dashboard lights and suspension lowering problems than you ever thought was possible.......................you have been warned.Mods:

Goodness me! A simple job made hard! Thanks for the advice though.
Eta - can HawkEye do the tight tolerance mode and steering angle resets? Also just read that the EAS needs a reset afterwards too??
Could someone confirm the full process so I can’t mess it up please?!

reb78, if you can get hold of some equipment to recalibrate steering angle sensor and can put the car into tight tolerance then that would obviously be the best solution as Narpy says.
But, I’ve had mine aligned three times now in the last 6 years and I’ve never bothered recalibration the SAS following any alignment yet. I have always put it into tight tolerance mode though before the alignment. It’s never caused me any problems, however, I do have the equipment available to recalibrate it if problems came about.

As the OP states the steering wheel is off centre, it will need the steering angle sensor calibration for the new position as one doesn't really know what position the wheel was in when last done. As said if its out, all sorts of weird consequences, as I have found out, ranging from just DSC cutting in on bends, to full Christmas tree lights and suspension lowering.

I’m also about to encounter this issue. My steering wheel is straight but my lower arms need doing and then it’ll be going straight for alignment. Surely these places aligning these cars should account for this? I won’t be spending £XXX on an alignment for them to try and hand it back with dropped suspension etc.

You might get lucky, in the 8 years I’ve my D3 I’ve lost count how many times alignment has been done. Always on a Hunter always spot on afterwards and never in tight tolerance mode and never had to reset the steering angle sensor.
That said if you have any worn parts in your suspension get them all fixed first as alignment won’t work if something is moving that shouldn’t. Here in Ireland I pay €35 for Hunter 4wheel alignment.

In my experience, if the steering sensor is, like yours will be, 5-10 deg out it can set off the stability control on corners, which is annoying and potentially quite dangerous, but can be avoided if you press the DSC button to turn it off every time you start the car.
If the steering sensor is quite a bit out it will flag an 'out of range' error that then does all the bells and whistles of lowered suspension etc.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Make sure all the adjusters are free and not seized , the rear camber adjusters on top of the wishbones are prone to seizing
If not the tracking will just spring back to where it was All transmission oil replaced
3 flash indicators
All timing belts changed
EPB serviced
De cat fitted
Wind deflectors
De-tango done

Guys.I did a wheel alignment and a few days after that i started getting the fault lights suspension lowered while driving. It goes off after i restart the car but comes back up after driving for a few miles.I decided to do steering angle calibration with my IID tool. The HDC fault, special programs off, amber brake light and DSC light came on just as the tool was executing the command.I turned the ignition off and completed the calibration successfully. My questions are, is it normal to have those fault lights come on while calibrating the steering angle? Also i get 3 degrees as the live value when the steering is pointing straight up is this the correct value? if not what should i be getting?
Brake light bulbs, switch are ok and battery is brand new
