Wet headlining
Hi, done a forum search but cannot find an answer.
My D4 HSE has started leaking presumably from the sunroof. The headliner bit around the center light is damp, along with the drivers sun visor (Rhd), and the water drips down the driver’s A pillar, onto the floor. I’ve replaced the exterior fixings on the A pillar trim and blocked off the top hole, but as suspected, the water seems to be coming from the sunroof. I’ve poured water into the sunroof cassette and it drains out quickly under the front wheel arches as it should. Any ideas before I start ripping the car apart?

Yes... Unless you're certain its the sunroof, try pouring water over the top edge of the windscreen. It seems that there are a few more failures on the LR4 with the sealant around the rain sensor.

Worth checking what I discovered on my D3 in this thread from @1/2 way down page 2:

+1 for Nasher's roof rail/seam leak. It seems the problem can appear either as Nasher found it, or slightly further back beneath the black roof rail trim. (small holes in the factory sealant )
A thorough surface clean of the rail and existing sealant (but not removal!) and then a thin smear of Tec7 or similar will sort it. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks for the suggestion, you were right! I removed the rail and removed the a pillar trim. Jammed a sheet of dry kitchen roll in the corner, shut the door and poured water into the gulley where the rail goes. Hey presto, wet kitchen roll. Isolated it to the bottom inch, just above the windscreen so dug out some of the old, sealant and put in some Plastic Padding leak sealer I had lying around. There was a good 1mm gap between where the roof and side panel have been welded together, which I thought was a bit shoddy. Looks like the sealant they used shrinks and cracks over time which is why it starts leaking, hopefully this has fixed it.

Looks a bit messy but all I've done is smeared new sealant over the old, cracked stuff. Where I could, I dug out the old stuff with a screwdriver.
