Thanks, you made me laugh. In a good way, because I get your point. When the time comes I will look here for a D3 with history, history and history.

Welcome!
BUT keep in mind, that a good and known “history” does not give any guarantees... either...
The chances are bigger to find a good one, but make reservations in your overall budget eitherway
IMHO these reservations need to be rather serious (as i learned after the first 80km’s )
A good engine in case of a replacement, will set you at least 5K back in budget. (incl the body off work)
If you have your own lift, maybe you can save a few quid, but not few K..
Tip:
If you want to know more answers regarding this, open a topic an the response will come in....
And.... never conclusive Best regards
Harold

Thanks Motolab,
My thought was that if I have to spend £6k on a D3 and then spend £5k on an engine if it fails, maybe I should spend £2k on a broken D3 and spend £5k on an engine replacement and know that it won't fail. That's what I was wondering. I don't want to get bombarded with answers, so I won't post it as a separate question. I just wanted to get some basic thoughts. Your answer and the previous answer give me a good indication.

Hi All, Joined a couple of weeks ago and have been reading posts. Have recently joined the ranks of Discovery 3 owners, after viewing several that were not as described found one that mechanically had had everything (or most) of what was needed to be replaced done with full check-able history. We were looking at getting a black interior but ended up with Alpaca!

Thanks Peter. I'm into tan interiors so I'm jealous. My preference is dark blue outside and Alpaca inside. I guess I have the options of search for a good one or buy a bad one and fix it myself. I guess your way will be cheaper but with less certainty. Anyway thanks for the information. SJJ

Hello Martin
I just bought my first Land Rover ... I am a proud owner of a Disco 3 SE. 2,7 TDV6 , 2005. I have old Saab’s, Opel GT, Fiat Barchetta and a MB Vito but needed a strong tower for my Bobcat trailer. I have always wanted to have a Discovery and now I found a good reason to get one.
I live in Finland near town Tampere.
There is quite lot to work on my Disco.... first thing is to get the engine running.... it won’t start. I am sure that this is the site to get all answer to the prolems with Disco.
It is great to have you

Hi everyone.
Got a lot of help on this forum when I had to work on my D3 4.4 2005.
I registered today so that I can help others and also ask a few things that have not been addressed here.
Cheers.

Hi All My brother was talking to me about getting a Disco 3 or 4 depending what he likes when he sees a car, and so got my detective hat on finding more info on them which led me here I own a Freelander 1 TD4 (i can hear you sighing at the back!) so taking in all the info for the newer Disco can be a help when he gets to buy one. As you can tell I'm the more internet/computer savvy of us so easier for me to look! Own a Freelander 1 TD4 but here for research for my brother wanting to buy a Disco 3 or 4

Hi all! Just picked up my first Disco 4 last year and found this forum a few months ago when I started looking into getting it a bit more off road rigged. Already found loads of useful advice and bits. Hoping to get the car all set up by the end of the year
