Weird drive fault that I could do with some advice please

Purchased a Disco 3 2008 HSE auto with a 'Transmission Fault'. I have driven it away but when I stoped to check the ride height as it had both the low and normal height lit up in the middle terrain function control. Up until this point the drive was showing a slight judder when under load which is what I expected. Turned the vehicle off then back on then selected normal height and up she went. All good or so I thought. Started to drive off and I can only describe a pogo type of drive with what sounded like a grinding type of noise from where the transmission is located.Weirdly it seemed less of a problem when I dropped the vehicle to low height setting but was still present. Again after trying different things I managed to get home by putting the vehicle in low range. Just strange how it was ok initially but I suppose the vehicle was cold and so was the transmission and fluids etc. Is it worth me flushing the system as I don't think the fluids have been changed and she is on 103k? Thanks.
 Cheers

Have a look at the propshaft before you drive it again.
Without seeing and hearing it's hard to diagnose, but for safety's sake: propshaft first. If it's that bad and it fails, you'll know about it.
Centre bearing is a known issue, but the UJ's will likely be needing attention too.
Notwithstanding other faults, check this first.

Surprisingly nothing in the history reference the pogo and dragging noise I experienced. I have cleared all codes to try to see if anything comes back. I will try it again this week with the iid connected and go for a drive.

Thanks for the reply Bardley. I will try to get under it at some point to see if there is anything obvious and revert.
Thumbs Up

With those tyre pressures I think the ABS is kicking in thinking its a wheel locking or stability control. inflate the tyres to the right amount and try it again.

Also check for water ingress in the connectors of the 4x4 unit in the battery bay, you have two codes that could indicate you have a problem there.

Also the steering angle sensor needs calibrating, this will also cause that type of problem.

Flack Thumbs Up

Thanks very much for the pointers Flack. I have now received my licence for this Discovery from GAP so I should be able to make changes moving forward. I will leave it tonight as we have an awful lot of precipitation.! I will keep the thread alive with updates as to assist other individuals if they come accross the same type of fault. Thanks again for the pointers.
Thumbs Up

You probably already know this and it may not be the issue you have, but always worth checking the brake light bulbs if you see a transmission fault error. If the filament fails and falls across so it joins the sidelight and brake light circuit together in the twin filament bulb it can, bizarrely, throw a transmission fault. I understand in the early days of the d3 some main dealers changed several gearboxes before this issue was noted....

Evening all. Managed to have a play with the new family member this evening. Following registration of the vehicle to my iiD Tool I cleared the codes and calibrated the steering angle as suggested. The tyre pressures were sorted on Sunday along with the usual fluid checks. Went for a steady 5 mile drive and all went well. No pogo or bongs thus far. Checked the fault codes when I got back and had this showing;

• P0630-00 (2F) VIN not programmed or incompatible - engine control module - powertrain control module

As Flack has suggested I will remove the battery etc on the weekend and check the connectors. I will also crawl underneath and check the drive shaft bearing as per Bardley's suggestion. I will use the vehicle this week for work and see what happens but will keep the rear bulb option im my mind also....
Thumbs Up
 Cheers
