I have just come across some paperwork I had when I worked at LR which shows how hitch load affects axle loads.
This is for the old 1996 MY Discovery. Due to the cantilever effect, the 150 kg hitch load on this vehicle adds 210 kg to the rear axle and knocks 60 kg off the front. It is very easy to overload the rear axle.

Ok I’ll get the balance right. Boot would have about 40kg of tools in. So I’d want the hitch weight to be 110kg?
And I’m struggling to find the chassis mount bolts. Has anyone got a part number please? Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Passengers & their luggage are rated at 75 kg each for homologation purposes , a load in the back instead of passengers on a 7 seater could be in the region of 375 kg . Any load forward of the rear axle, loads it slightly less , as some is taken by the front axle.
You could still have a hitch load of 150 kg and 40 kg of tools, depends what else is in the vehicle. I believe a D3/4 is rated for 7 people ( 375 kg) plus the hitch load , but when reaching the maximum, the position of the load in the vehicle can be significant on axle loading.

I’m just trying to suss this out currently
So the nose weight was confusing me as the weight would differ dependant on how high the wood was propping the trailer nose on to scales. But then I realised to have the wood at same height as the nose would be on the tow bar, correct?
Also, I’d have say 5 people in car. Then some tools in back. Say 40kg. So should I say 110kg on scales? Regardless of how many are seated in vehicle? And so long as tools in back don’t exceed 40kg? Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Yes if it's a dual or triple axle trailer the trailer needs to be level.
You ideally need to get the whole lot weighed if you are towing the same amount all the time.
There is a company near me that has drive over weigh scales that measure each axle weight as you drive over and give you all a full report.
If you are being paid to tow you will also need a tacho and need to complete a driver's CPC unless you can prove an exemption. Andrew

Thanks and when you say payed to tow...
I basically drive to events towing a marquee and people then build it and return to dismantle it.
Around the uk but the price is the same, so delivery charges aren’t applied to the service.
Does that mean I need a Tacho or? Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Do you receive money for what you do, wages, fuel money or any funds from the job because this makes what your doing commercial towing and you will need
A tachograpgh and a driver's CPC as well as business insurance.
There are a number of exemptions but you would need professional advice to prove which one you fall under and then you would need to carry a letter of attestation to show the police or Vosa Andrew

Not entirely true since there are on and off slip roads from Lane 4 on the M8 in Glasgow.
Know where you mean, Charing X exit, as long as you do not enter Lane 4 till the gantry sign for Charing Cross as the road markings change making Lane 4 a slip road, it’s all legal, enter lane 4 before the gantry sign then it is an offence 3 points and a heavy hit on the wallet.

Exemptions are a nightmare to work out properley but there are companies out there that will advise you.
We used to use an exemption that allowed utility vehicles to tow trailers but that exemption was dropped over ten years ago and when i got stopped by Vosa i found them very helpful, they thought that we would fall into an exemption and recommended a company to advise us.

Are you paid by somebody to deliver a marquee that does not belong to you?

Not carrying anybody else's goods is a bonus.
Do you know the weight of your trailer and load? Assuming you are over 3.5 tonnes GTW you are unfortunatley into tachograph territory.
The key point for you are that you are national so cannot use the under 100km exceptions (which aren't as simple as they seem)
Dandy's between Sealand and Chester will let you use their weighbridge for a tenner which will give you definative answers on your weights.
