Steering?
The saga of the odd noise / rapid judder / feels like front O/S brake coming on on tight right turns at speed(ish - say 30-40) continues.
Had 4 wheel alignment done, which has stopped the wandering. They couldn't see a problem, local garage couldn't replicate it (maybe they wouldn't put it into a bend like I do) though they did replace the lower arm bushes which stopped the clonking going over bumps.
Tyres are ok and at correct pressures. No judder from wheel at speed, in fact, no judder through the wheel when the noise/drag comes on. New front discs and pads about 2 months ago (problem was there before that).
Seems to be steering related - whilst at a junction with wheels reasonably turned I noticed that I could waggle the steering wheel about 15 degrees and feel a jump/judder somewhere. You can sometimes feel the noise/drag coming on before I ease off on a bend or tight roundabout and I've noticed that the resistance to turning the wheel seems to vary somewhat, like its jumping from resistance to no resistance and back.
Any ideas anyone?with a occasional Bailey Unicorn Valencia tintent

Not sure about solution as I'm having a similar issue. Power steering pump? Steering Rack?
Does the issue get worse with the suspension extended - Mine does!
I'm sending mine to a friendly specialist next week so if they know what's wrong I'll let you know.Let's Off-Road!

That would be what I would check before spending any more money. You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

I had similar symptons and solved it (with Woody's help) by freeing up the lower UJ. The tightness came back a couple of months later so I replaced the lower UJ section and it has been fine since. Not sure about the hot oil smell though??
