(P) Flashes red while driving |
|
Hi Everyone
Picked up my first Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE '06 today, all on the whole seems great! BUT I have one issue I found after I took it away. Once i've been driving for about 10 mins, the red (P) starts to flash and their is a warning coming up saying that the park brake isn't applied and i should apply it. If i stop apply the brake then release it the fault goes away and then repeats.
Can anyone point me in the right direction and is it something I could fix myself and if not whats the damage going to be?
Thanks, Chris

I had this fault whilst on hols 2 weeks ago. Both times it happened I was in low range, down STEEP hills. Turning off and back on cured it each time and I've not seen the fault since. A hint as to how/why it happened would be useful.

If as your post suggests that your EPB is functioning all ok then it suggests that a some point the emergency park brake release may have been activated at some time and the re latch/reset of the EPB module has not been done correctly .....
You do not mention if your D3 was purchased from a main dealership, perhaps not given its year, or independent car seller - should go back to whoever sold it to you for remedial action soonest.

Thanks,I got it from a independent garage, the EPB does seem to function ok otherwise but I have dropped them an email this morning expressing how unhappy I am and wanting to know what they are going to do to fix it.Will follow up with a call later and see what they say.

Quick update, so the garage i bought it off said to bring it back in 3 weeks when the mot is booked, saying its not important and that its prolly a current issue. I wasnt happy with this so took it to my local specialist and they hooked it up and said the EPB module wasnt calibrated, 15 mins later they sent me on my way. no codes for 24 hours but now its back it maybe unrelated but i can also hear a tick tick tick with the rotation speed of the wheel, i go fast the tick goes faster, from the rear of the car... so i think its going back to the local guys to see if they can find and fix the fault a second time round
SO far its a joy to drive but the bugs are killing my buzz in a big way

The 'tick tick tick' is very likely to be the EPB cable rubbing against one of the rear wheels, there is a bracket that is bolted to the rear lower suspension arms that holds the cable away from the wheel,it wears through eventually and snaps, cheap DIY fix, but if left can cause the EPB cable to wear through as it rubs on the wheel. Easily diagnosed if you remove the rear wheels

D.P. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

All red lights on the dash mean danger stop ASAP. Take it back to the dealer you purchased it from, it is a criminal offence to sell a vehicle with faulty brakes, and carries a hefty fine, any problems just mention the magic words "trading standards" It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for the help, found the cable as you said, popped down and got a replacement bracket fitted it and tapped up the damaged cable. No ticks and no more error msgs thanks to everyone for their advice.
On to the next issue on my list

Cool - surprised it was causing error messages - I guess it was pulling the cable??

My local guys, checked the system and found no faults once the EPB was calibrated, they are surprised also it was causing errors, came to the same conclusion you have that it was catching the cable and pulling on it.
Thanks for the help again and it's here for the next person now too
Off to look up central locking issues now,put it in to the garage at some point to sort out the EGR that's stuck and I think it'll be fully functional

Get 'em blanked - runs better without them and saves you ever having the headache again- less than a tenner for the blanks
