Can be done with the body on:-

but it might be better to do it with the body off, particularly if there are other issues you could easily address at the same time.
It's suggested that you should use 2x M8 flange bolts to refit the new turbo which will massively aid future turbo removal.

My local indie changed the turbo on my D3 without taking the body off. He does like a challenge (& he usually gets one when I turn up!)
