As per title when the car is started up just wont rev up for a good 10secs or so, foot flat to floor.
The problem seemed to be worse in the colder temps.
It does get better once there is a bit of heat in the car but still not 100%, not ideal when pulling out of junctions etc
Its in the local garage right now but no obvious cause found, hopefully a friend with a computer can help tomorrow
Any clues folks??????

EGR vales, I reckon. Just blank them off on your car; don't bother replacing them as they'll only fail again.
You need to get your fault codes read to be certain but it's probably happened to all of us at some point or other.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves are there to re-circulate the exhaust gases in order to help burn off some of the in the exhaust gases before they are released into the atmosphere through the exhaust system.
Once your engine reaches certain operating parameters, the valves will open to allow the dirty exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber to be burnt again. Recycling of gases, if you like.
Yours are jammed in one position and your engine is not getting enough clean, oxygen-rich air, to enable you to accelerate effectively.
Think of it as a device that causes your car to partake in passive smoking. As human beings, we typically breathe more effectively when we're breathing clean, fresh air, rather than somebody else's cigarette smoke.

Very common
Even if they are not playing up yet, they soon will be. I would blank them off as preventative maintenance. That way, if they do fail completely without warning, you would never know
FWIW, you can buy blanks for £5 off Ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Discovery-3-RRS-...3381a81d8a

should also be said that on yer 06 plater it will NOT display a EML light (engine management light) on the dash for FUBAR egr's unlike later models which might lead yer garage to assume simefing completely different if they are not experienced early D3 techs so could come up with "sorry sir we fink yer turbo's gone pete tong, that will be £1500 plus vat sir!!"

Eventually got round to fitting the blanks today.
Job took about 30mins & the use of a flexible grabber tool is well recommended.
Difference in acceleration is awesome even when the engine was warm
