Off to view a 2006 TDV6 (Auto) HSE this morning..
Hi
I'm just looking to enter the scary world of 4x4. A Discovery seemed just right.
I'm viewing a 2006 TDV6 (Auto) HSE this morning with 65k on the clock. On paper it seems good...full history, good condition, etc
From reading through the posts as long as its had good service history, all should be well. Would anyone advise a 3rd party warranty, they look to be about £800 for a year
I expect this has already been asked a million times, but is there much apart from the obvious I can check?
Thanks in advance

Check that it really is a '06 rather than one of the very first MY07 (indicated by a 7A in the VIN) models. If it is a 06 as described then you will be viewing my favourite model year for Discovery 3s.
Paperwork is everything so look at who has serviced it with a quality independent LR specialist ranking above a dealer and dealer ranking above the rest.
Test all the electrics as per any other car.
Check the EPB a few times for any loud squealing.
Check the EAS and raise and lower it a few times to see if the compressor can cope. Look at the 4x4 info on the satnav to see if there are any height sensor issues.
Check the suspension for worn bushes or bad knocking (you will do suspension work during your ownership as 4x4s are hard on it).
Check the brakes and when doing your under-bonnet inspection check that extra back tubes are installed between the box on the back left and the engine (as you face the engine) as this should be the brake vs oil countermeasure done under a recall.
If you can borrow a Hawkeye from a member so you can read the fault codes and check that the electronic VIN matches the paperwork and plates.
Beyond that it is interior and exterior condition, tyres and price.

Also see if it has had the belts done. They will be due soon. Lot of money including the service element. JamesJames favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

The price of a service including belts does not have to be terrifying.
Mine cost around £600 inclusive and others achieved a cheaper price than that. Some mischievous dealers did charge well over a grand in the early days but as it became more common the prices tumbled.

Thanks! That means this one is due for a new set of belts now! It'll be 7 years in June

Hi All
...just back from the viewing, although I have to return for a test drive. The parking brake seems fine and so did the suspension. I was wondering though how quick they should rise - its seemed fairly slow, is this normal? There weren't any noises when it went up though
I also noticed one of the steering arm gators was alittle 'moist' is this anything to worry about or is a big job to replace?
