Found why my EPB's started screeching again |
|
Well after following Bodsy's really helpful Brake Bible last weekend I thought I stopped the EPB from screeching every time I put it by adjusting the brake shoes. I pulled back down the drive on Friday night, pulled the EPB switch up & the cat-scarer was back
So this morning, I thought I'd look a bit deeper & took the NSR wheel off, then the calliper & mount and the screw that holds the disc in place. Without backing off the park brake adjuster, just gave the disc a wiggle & it just pulled off If anyone's seen the Wheeler Dealer episode with the BMW bubble car where Ed takes the rear drum off & the friction material falls to the floor, I managed quite a good reinactment, except mine was in three bits
Guess I've been lucky it's not jammed on while I've been driving - still guess who's got a PM this evening for a price on new pad's & shoes
Got it all back together, just got to remember not to use the EPB in the next week - luckily I'm hiring a van to do a relocate job for a client this week anyway
All good fun eh?

Yup mine did on my D3, luckily not going fast, back of the car started jumping around until the pad disintegrated then was ok again
I find the best way of having least trouble is to always use it, my manual D3 seldom played up, usually only when needing an adjustment and I have continued using on the D4. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I'd recommend against that as a plan. I took a friends d3 for an mot whilst he was deployed. He never used the EPB. Unfortunately the mot tester did. At which point it seized, costing £1200 in total for the full repair and replacement. It's a pricey bit of kit when it goes. I'd suggest that regular use and maint (Bodsy style) is best practice.
