THERMOSTAT QUESTION

I had a search through the forum for information regarding the thermostat but the one bit of information I can't find (and the one bit I really want) is......

Where the Censored is it!!!

My car is taking an age to warm up. Big Cry Take today for example - +8°C (so FBH won't fire up) and I'm at least 7 miles into my journey to work before the gauge gets to it's normal position. One morning last week when it was just +2°C (and the FBH should have fired up but didn't), i was 12 miles down the road before the engine got to normal operating temperature.

I've had the car from new so I know that on days like today, it used to get to normal temperature before I had even got out of Darlington!

So, I think I need to change the thermostat but first I need to know where it is.
Is it an easy job to do?
Do you need to drain the coolant?

Thanks guys

No need to completely drain it, but some will be lost and you need to bleed the cooling system.

Have a look at these:

and some info about bleeding the system (towards the end)

No personal experience doing either, but my D3 does take a while to warm up too so let me know how it goes if you do this Wink

Oh Joy!!!

I have to grovel around underneath the car to do it Big Cry

And it looks as though the releasing the hoses will cause the coolant to drain anyway Big Cry Big Cry

And I don't have a tool to release the hose clips Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Why do car manufacturers use those stupid clips. What's wrong with jubilee clips Twisted Evil

EDIT!
And a new thermostat costs over £30 Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

you dont need a special tool to release those clips shown in the PDF ...a pair of pliers works fine (your just pulling the 2 tabs together to slacken of the clip )
