Engine System Fault?

Could be many things, and I would be having the fault codes read firstly, before you start worrying. Could be something as simple as a partially blocked fuel filter Thumbs Up

Yep agree with Disco_Mikey first thing get it on a diagnostics machine as it could be a multitude of things, at least if there is a fault logged it gives you direction to go in.

Cheers fellas Thumbs Up But i'm sure it said 'exhaust system fault' and not engine' is that the same thing and is it normal for the fault msg to flash up and then disappear?? Or should msg stay on dash msg display

Personally, I have never seen an "exhaust system fault" displayed on the dash, ever. It has always been Engine.

First time for everything I suppose, but I suspect your fault code will be related to either fuel pressure or boost pressure, as these are the most common Thumbs Up

When I started the car at minus 6 degree yesterday morning, it only run at low rev, no trottle respons for about 30 seconds. Then it started to run normal after a lot of smoke caming out.
Used my HawkEye to see if there where any faultcodes, I found: P0489 - Exhaust gas recirculation control – circuit low.
Is it the EGR starting to misfunction (one or both)?

This morning the same happened. When I started the car only run at low rev, no trottle respons. Same faultcode: P0489.
I hoped BAS was finding a solution for banking them before I had to replace Sad

Normally, on 07MY's, the engine management light would come on before you know about any issues with EGR's. That said, there is a fault with one of them, so is probably the cheapest and easiest place to start

Guess it could have been 'engine system fault ' it was up briefly and disappeared pretty quickly so only caught it for less than second or so... If the fault is still there would the MSG not stay up on dash??

I had a similar thing happen to me last winter. Engine System Fault for 2 seconds then it all clears by itself. However I did experience "limp home" mode while the fault message was displayed on the dash.

Fault codes said something about boost control. However since the weather warmed up and I changed the battery it hasn't reoccurred. How old is your battery? How "lively" is the car cranking when bone cold? Do you get bongs/HDC faults when cranking from cold? I was getting all of these.

You can read my thread here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic73278.html

First thing to do in any case is to get the fault codes read.

Ash, believe me - you miss read. It would have been ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT, fairly common. Never seen EXHAUST system fault, LR's exhausts aren't that clever. Thank goodness. Mr. Green

Cheers DSL.. Time to get my eyes tested me thinks Embarassed

Nighthawk mate car didn't go into limp home mode just drove as normal..fortunately Thumbs Up Cold start up is ok starts up ok..I've had the D3 for nearly 2 yrs (it's an 05MY) and have not changed the battery I doubt it the previous owner changed the battery either..i do get suspension system fault so car stays locked in drive height.

But when I turn ignition off then back on it clears up and I can raise or lower the suspension ok..but after a few minutes fault comes up again sonic want to raise or lower then I gotta turn off then again.

Car does feel a bit 'heavy' in lower sometimes especially from start up in lower gears and then ok in higher speeds. Also when cold starting there is a not of a rattling type of noise as if heat shield or something like that is anit loose, but again it it stops after a couple of minutes and engine sounds normal. Revs steady at idle. Will get it hooked up to diagnostic machine... Got a cousins mate who works in kwik fit
Will take it to him probably...got another forum member who offered the diagnostic check who is not too far from me so cud take it to him.. Thumbs Up

Depending what code reader they have at Kwik-Fit, it may only give you generic OBD faults.
You would be better having someone with dedicated LR diagnostics to plug it in for you Thumbs Up
