Heading for my fourth clock spring?!

I have an 05 plate Disco and other than a wheel bearing a new compressor, ERG valves, rear wiper blade, 7 year/110k service and a recently faired parking sensor it's been relatively OK for a car of that age. However, I have a recurring airbag warning light issue which always ends up with a new clock spring. It tends to follow the same pattern. The fault is fixed by replacing the clock spring, then 4-6 months later I get the occasional airbag warning light. This becomes more frequent and tends to happen when I start to turn the steering wheel to the left. Eventually it comes on each time I start up the car. I'm almost there now!

Now these clock springs aren't cheap and I suspect that changing them every 6 months or so isn't typical. So:

(1) What is the problem? Is it related to the steering wheel going to full lock? Does this cause some sort of excessive wear inside the clock spring?

(2) Warranty. I'm starting to get fed up with paying out for the part. It was replaced in February and I suspect/hope that Land Rover have a 1 year warranty. How do I go about getting a free replacement etc?
