HTC fault after not starting properly
I went to start the Disco this morning. -4 degrees outside so I was sort of wondering if the start would take longer. Anyway I cranked it over, it almost started after the usual second or so but failed, then just carried on cranking for another 5 secs until finally it started, throwing up an 'HTC fault' message in the process.
I have since stoppped and started a couple of times and its been fine. Any idea what this 'HTC fault' means ?

You sure it wasn't 'HDC' or Hill Decent Control ...not sure that you'll find HTC listed as a fault message ?
Sounds like your battery is not responding well to the cold weather which has subsequently thrown a fault message TBH ...but to be safe get both the battery and alternator checked for output 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Not sure about HTC specifically but I've had a similar thing with mine a few times recently, as you say it starts briefly then cuts out, subsequent re-start is OK or maybe a little slow but accompanied by various random messages.
This seems to happen when the car has been standing for a few days and more so if very cold, so I assumed it was down to the battery voltage being a bit low, I've rigged up a charger connection via the towing socket and now if it's to stand for a time I connect a trickle charger, the starting problem does not occur then, so it reinforces my suspicions about the battery voltage.

As an aside, I replaced the battery a year ago and the battery and alternator check out OK on a voltage test so in my case I put it down to recent lack of use.Clive
