D4 wheels onto D3 ?
Looking for a new set of wheels and tyres for my D3. It´s a 2004 (one of the first off the production line as I understand it) V8 HSE with the standard 19" HSE wheels at present, 255/55/19.
So, totally wrecked two of the tyres when hitting the curb , Stealer now telling me the wheels are screwed too and need to be replaced or refurbed.
I was thinking of upgrading the wheels anyway, so now is a good time, would rather do that then refurb the current ones, although will refurb them later anyway when I have the new ones on.
The point....... I have found a brand new set of D4 wheels and tires that I am interested in, really like them, same tire size etc, 255/55/19... So, will they fit my car OK ?

They will fit it just fine, my D3 came out of the factory with wheels that are now fitted to some of the D4's.

OK great. Think i´ll go ahead and buy these then. Nice upgrade for my car, have to class it as a christmas present I suppose. lol.
Just one thing... Assume they will fit as standard... And won´t need a "fitting kit" or these "spacers" I have heard about whilst reading these forums...

Hmmm. Was just about to buy them and found some D4 20" wheels... Much much nicer LOL.
More expensive too of course but WTH.
Will a set of 20" D4 wheels be OK to replace my 19" D3 wheels ? Any complications or anything ?
They are (255/50 R20) D4 wheels, they say they are 100% off a D4.
(I only ask because I understand there are complications with using RRS Wheels on a D3- Just want to do the 100% correct thing to do, standard fitment etc - No Spacers bla bla).
Cheers.

Hi,
The 20's will fit just fine! There is only one major drawback depending what you use the car for and that it, limited tyre choice in 20",they'll probably have standard Pirelli Scorpion Zero's on,great tyre but don't last long,so the only other options i'm aware of are:-
General Grabber AT 275/45/R20
Cooper Zeon LTZ 275/45/R20
May be a few others but the above are most talked about on here
I'm running my Pirelli's out, hopefully they'll be ok in the snow, last year i had Pirelli ATR's on my 19's,they were excellent but these Zero's on the 20's just don't seem like they'll do the job,but they can't be that bad as every new D4 out there comes shod with em!!
We'll see!!

the 255/50x20 tyres on the D4 are a lower weight rating than the D3 (probably 109's). Just check you insurer is OK with the swap, and the tyre spec.

Yes good point Al and you are correct they are 109's not 111.

quite a few folks will comment on tyre weight ratings, I know I have from time to time, and where possible its better to stick to something at or above the manufactures spec, so what I always smile at is this:
In the UK, the tyre label on the D3 drivers door suggests 111 as a minimum tyre spec
But in OZ, the label has a different part number, and specs a 109 tyre as minimum
Same car, just upside down

I just asked one guy who is selling some and he´s confirmed they are 111, he says they were off his new D4 which was delivered with them .... Could he be wrong ? I´d rather go by advice here than some "seller"..
He says they are 255/50/20ZR111 Pirelli Scorpions.
He also says they are 4000miles old but have 90% of tread left. Find this a little hard to believe if they wear quickly ?

Ok. Decided on a set of 19" in the end, from a D4 so looking forward to them coming.
Just one question. Will the wheel nuts from the 2004 HSE wheels fit the 2011 D4 wheels ok ? Assuming they are the same but don't want a surprise when the wheels get here.
Cheers all.
