Winter Wheels
So, having taken on a new car with a replacement set of 20" MY10 wheels with brand new Conti tyres, I'm loathed to chuck them but am being niggled by the thought of lack of capability in the winter.
Two options: swap out the tyres for 20" AT tyres and keep the Contis for the summer, or spend more and get a set of 19" wheels and put some ATs on them and I can just swp when I'm ready.
Choices over rubber, I've narrowed it to either:
A set of Cooper Zeon LTZ 275-45-R20:
or,
A set of General Grabber AT 275-40-R20:
But for the 19's, I'm limited to:
A set of A set of General Grabber AT 255-55-R19:
or,
A set of Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow 255/55/R19:
The latter two also need an eBay scour for a set of alloys, which is an additional expense I'd rather do without.
Can you fit 55 profile tyres on 20's in the arches, or am I limited to 45 profile as the max depth?

I run LTZ's all year round on 275/45/20.
It's a great tyre with no real extra road noise.
I used to run 285/50/20 on my D3, but they rubbed when I put them on my D4...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Do you reckon these would fit a RRS? I have the first-fit Scorpions on the D4 19s and have the new Conti's on the RRS 20s, but I think I'll need some more tread for the winter. I was considering just bumping the profile for a bit, but wasn't sure whether they'd physically fit.

Just to be clear, those are 275-45-20 Cooper Zeon LTZ on a RRS. They're the Stormer wheels aren't they?
If they fit, I may just bite the bullet and get a set as the price is excellent.

Def LTZ's on Stormers, though cann't vouch for size [as this is a library pic].
But don't see them as being any smaller than 275/45/20.
Also, would suggest that there's far more room under an RRS arch than there is a D3/D4....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Is it an RRS they are going on, or a Disco? as did you post a typo for the 20" Grabbers, as you'd want 275/45x20's (same as the LTZ's), not 275/40x20 for a D3, or 255/50x20's for a D4.

the site I was on only gave me the option of the 40 profile for the ATs and not the 45s.
The reason for the question was more about fitting them to a RRS and whether anyone's used the Coopers.
I live in the sticks up (/down) a private road hill so clearance by the council is unlikely. Whether we get ice or just snow is debatable, but I figured id put it out to the masses.

Apologies if this is a thick question, but shouldn't you have posted your thread here to get your answers:

you can get the latest style AT's in 275/45x20's as well.

I already have done, but given there is more technical content over here than 'what colour should I paint xxxxxx part', I figured I'd ask anyway.

Hi Guys,
Some advice please.
Just in the process of purchasing some D4 20" 10 spoke HSE alloys for my 2006 D3 HSE. Im wanting to fit either LTZ's or Grabbers for all year round use. I think Ronp mentions that he had 285's on his old D3 but I keep hearing that the max tyre size for the D3 arches on a 20" rim will be 275 45 20 as some people have reported rubbing but mainly on post 2007 vehicles? Is this tyre size available for both makes above and does anyone have any advice on the preferences mainly between these 2 tyres. I also have been told that the maximum size you can have in the underslung spare wheel carrier is 275?
Anyway some much needed advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, CeekayD4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo
