Uneven Wear Across Tyre?

I have Vredesteins fitted on my Disco (HSE 19 Inch rims). Had its MOT yesterday, all is well. However I noticed the tyres are wearing unevenly across. They still are 4.5mm in the middle, but 3mm on the edge.

Vredesteins recommend themselves that tyres are inflated to 39 front and 46 rear, very different to what LR recommend. Is this uneven wear a sign of over inflation or is it normal for tyres to wear unevenly?

If correctly inflated they should wear evenly across tread width.

Thanks, due to replace them with some lovely new ATRs in a few weeks so will deflate to 33/36 and see how that goes.

Sounds like an alignment problem to me, make sure you have it checked before you fit new tyres or the same will happen.

I read it as being lower on both edges. Embarassed

If lower just on one edge yes probably alignment.

If both edges could be inflation related.

Fun and games of how people write/read/interpretate a post. In this case it might be Embarassed for me

Embarassed I read it as "edge" and not "edge's", but guess you could be right and would agree with tyre pressure.

UP pressure by 4-6psi front and rear, works well for most.

I wonder how regular the tyre pressure has been checked though. Question

Sorry, yes, first person as right. The unevenness is consistent across all 4 tyres and I check pressures regularily.

I have had them at 39/46 as vredestein recommended which obviously seems to high. Have now put them back to 33/36 and will see what happens. Thumbs Up

By droping down to standard pressure you will make it worse.

If the tyre is OVER INFLATED the centre would wear faster than the edges, if UNDER INFLATED the edges would wear faster, so it does sound as though you need to go higher Shocked

As the pressure increases the central band of the tyre tread will expand more than the edges adjacent to the tyre wall.

How accurate is your tyre pressure gauge?

beanie...

I understand your logic but I have to be over inflated as to go higher than 39/46 will make the car a bouncing machine Rolling with laughter

I use several tyre places to inflate and also have my won gauge so am sure the pressures are fairly accurate. Has me puzzled as the uneven wearing is identical on each tyre.

My only other thought would be that the width of the tyre is too wide for the rim, what is the tyre size?

Are you runnig wider than 255/55?
