Large Counterweights under the rear, what are they for? |
|
As the heading says really, what are the two rubber mounted heavy blocks at the rear of the car for?
Seems strange they should whack what must be 40kg (2 x 20kg either side) there so can only guess it's to do with the handling or reduce motion sickness.
Any ideas? White, poverty spec 4.0v6 model with Black 20inch alloys that previous owner fitted but I kinda like.

Harmonic dampers - they help to iron out small vibrations and aid the smooth ride. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Unnecessary quote removed
If you fix them so they dont swing you will understand why there there. It is quite common for the trailer wiring to snag them if not installed properly so if the ride gets unusual look there first.

Weird! How many other cars have or need these? Does it not highlight a design problem?

The vast majority of cars have them in varying sizes relative to the vehicle weight....obviously as the D3\4 is a bit of a beast and that is why they are ....big ! 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
