need new tyres for the winter

hi , can any one recomend a good winter tyre , ive got a set of 22" wheels , which i will remove and either refit my 18" se alloys , or preferbly will but some 19" HSE alloys (just prefur the hse alloys)

was looking at the Cooper LTZ but do they come in 19" , live quite high up(1200ft ) on the side of a hill and have to leave the house around 5am around an hour before the ploughs usally come out in the winter

so people , what do you have and what do you recomend and where from ?
cheers
Dafydd

i know tyres have been done to the death , but with my poo computor skills i cant seam to get what im after out of the search function , and allways defaults to the data entry screen when i ''back'' button to leave a topic Crying or Very sad

if what they say is true i thought i would get my tyres ready early in case they run out when the snow falls Very Happy

Don't bother with 19" - stay with 18".

I too live on a steep hill; for all round performance consider the General Grabber ATs - speak to Andy at site sponsors:-

He will give you good, unbiased advice & can supply at an excellent price.

I can thoroughly recommend Vredstein Wintrac Xtremes running on 17" rims. The rims are cheap on Eblag (or here, as people move to the D4) and you don't care if they get scratched or pitted by salt or snowchains

The 235 width leaves plenty of room in the wheelarch for snow and slush accumulation (which freezes overnight and then tries to rip out your ABS sensors, height sensors and loads of other delicate stuff located around the hub - it cost a guy in our office a couple of hundred quid last year when he drove away in his Eurobox without clearing the frozen slush...). Likewise, the 70 profile enables hidden kerbs to be ignored with impunity.

Having said that, I was very impressed by the Disco's abilities running stock Scorpion Zeros on 19s - the Vreds are just better. On 'normal winter' wet roads, the Vreds cut through the water like a speedboat and they are soooo smooth.

I have Vreds...

on the standard D3 - HSE rims
they still have 60% of the tread even though 20k miles old...will last till spring at my sorts of mileage
work well on flooded roads & are awesome in deep snow (French Alps two years ago)

the strange thing is that at bad weather "negotiating speeds"...the D3 makes even poor tyres (like Pirrelli Scorpions...crap in the wet especially when worn) appear to be good.

As a long term prospect Vreds are a safe buy..I have been using them over 30 years on Volvo's whilst living & working in Ireland they didnt (& probably still dont) do anything with the roads in Winter.....
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
