FBH Problem - and this is not the usual one either...

So I've got the dreaded smoking FBH too but mine's for completely different reasons to the usual one

I've just had my Disco returned after needing the alternator & battery replacing. It was very low on fuel at the time so filled up yesterday and took out for a proper run this morning. Within a couple of minutes it was apparently that there was something wrong - an acrid, burning plastic smell which I couldn't locate. I've just popped the bonnet to find a mass of melted black plastic from a component behind the FBH - it's clear that this should have been hooked into a bracket in front but was not located, and instead was sitting on hot exhaust below. The melted component is/was black & cylindrical, has a corrugated metal pipe running through it from the FBH.

Aside from being very angry at the dealer in question who serviced the car and charged a fortune for it, I need to know:-
* What is/was this black plastic component?
* What's running through the pipe?
* Now cold, It's currently fused to the pipework below. Turning the engine on will allow this to be lifted off & refitted to the bracket - is this advisable?
* Can the car be safely driven, at least back to the garage?

Any advise much appreciated Smile

It's the air intake for the FBH.
 De-Tango
V8 Brakes
EGRs blanked
Running boards
3 flash indicators and clock on dash
Blingy grille...

Thanks Sydney - that's not sounding perhaps as bad as I'd feared. I'm guessing I'm OK to pull it off the exhaust & remount what's left of it without fear of being sprayed with something unpleasant, and drive off to the dealer then?
