New front discs andheavy vibration
Local garage changed the front discs and pads on my D3 HSE after an unexpected MOT failure at 55k. Ever since get a heavy vibration, especially when braking from higher speed. Been back and they say they have checked the discs and they are not warped but it seems very strange to me. They believed play in O/S steering rack arm was to blame and against my better judgement I let them change it - still no better.
Thinking of buying my own set of discs and pads and ofeering to pay to have them fitted to see - on the understanding they refund the original cost if problem solved. Before I make such a magnanamous gesture anything else i could consider?

LR parts?? Also any excess heat from the wheel after shuddering, if so could be partly seized on brake caliper.

Disks may not be warped, but they may be slightly out of balance if they're cheap disks.
you can ask them to swpa the disks over side to side & see if that makes any difference at all. It may just move the balance point round to a more suitable position on the other hubs. Bodsys Brake Bible
More likely to be disc run out rather than weight balance.
if you can get hold of a magnetic block and a DTI you could have a got at measuring the run out.
The other option is dirt/grease on the hub face when the disc where fitted, as Bodsy said above, take these off and clean the faces up turn these 180 and refit.

I get a similar thing on mine. I get no wobble when braking up to 50mph. THen up to 70 i get wobble if if brake moderately. if i brake hard then the wobble goes.

mmmm having thought about this, you can't actually do that as there is only one position that the disk can be held by the single screw onto the hub.
but cleaning any cack off the hub before fitting the disk may help. You can still swap the disks left side to right side to see if it makes it any better.Bodsys Brake Bible

Sounds to me like disc mis-alignment, it could be that one (both?) of the discs are not seated properly onto the flange/hub, either due to poor manufacturing tolerance if not OEM parts or a bit of crud left on the mounting face.Clive

had same problem not so long ago. Used get wheel wobble on braking upto say 50/60mph. Had a guy take a look, inside tie roads were shot, so changed them. still had wobble, so changed the discs and drives and brakes a dream now. No issue with new discs at all after that.

I have not checked a D3, but have check by the following method.
remove caliper
refit wheel (necessary to clamp the disc to the hub)
using a magnetic stand on the upright or similar and checking on the reverse face where the caliper was you can check run out as well as bearing float.

Thanks for all your contributions. The garage replaced the discs and pads at their own cost this morning and hey presto all is well.
