Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme. Thoughts?

Been reading this thread

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic29086.html

Due to change my tyres on a HSE with 19inch rims. Do I go and buy some cheap second hand 18 inch rims to give me more winter tyre otpions or do I just got for the above.

If anyone has these tyres would be interested to know if you use them all year round, what mileage you get out of them and are they noisy compared to standard road tyres on motorways? Is it stupid to just run with these all year round in UK on the basis of where we live gets icy and can snow here in the UK and we go at least once to stay very high (2,200m) in the Alps. Want a winter tyre but not keen on the idea of doing an annual swap?

...I wanna

know too !
Just at the point of of having to change tyres - Pirrelli Scorpions.....which I felt were substandard not just in terms of low wear life - but planing when on even modest sums of surface water - like moderate rain.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

i have had Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme on mine for approx 18 months and done 20,000 miles so far and looking like i will get another 20,000 out of them i also run them all year as they are good in both dry and wet and fatastic in snow Bow down , i also have aset of MTR's but only ever use them when i know i am going into extreme mud and so far they have only been changed once in 18 months Very Happy

as for the road noise i don't think they are any noisier than the scorpions that they replaced

all in all i will be replacing them with the same when the time eventually comes that they wear out Thumbs Up

P.s. BLFarrar your not that far away if you want to have run in mine to see get in touch

Greece

one question.

Usually the winter tires are not so happy with summer temperatures. I also use winter tires (all year round) in my Panda 4x4 (2004+ model) and I've noticed that they wear very quickly compared to normal tires.

I assume that winter tires in a heavy vehicle like the D3 will suffer during summer, especially if you drive fast in a motorway.

So,have you also noticed that?

PS. the above statement is made using the car in Greece. (25-40 degrees during summer)

living in england i have no real experiance of high summer temps but the car does do france with tintent for at least 3 weeks a year so i would say that of the 20,000 miles 5,000 would have been in reasonably high temps Thumbs Up

Strange thing is when looking at prices on line they seem cheaper than many others and they get great reviews. Whats the catch?

Just been to Austria on a set of these - good grip in snow - had bucket loads in the resort and they coped well on compacted ice. Also took my high up on steep gradients covered in snow. They were good on autobahns too.

Mine are on 17 inch wheels I've just bought a second set for a complete change - narrow wheels too. The smaller wheels seem to have made the handling lighter.

My TD5 had HP Wranglers which were ok in the recent snow but didn't inspire the confidence the new rubber gave me. In terms of a comparison I only changed to Disco 3 last Friday before the trip.

Because of the fuel pump problem my D3 is still in Austria. The D3 I picked up at Gatwick thanks to LR Assistance has HPs on it on 18 inch wheels. These seemed quite noisy in comparison.

Having just started with the Vredestein, I am very impresed with the finish quality of the tyre, and balance is very good.

This is another choice of a 19" tyre which you can use all year round with no issues, and I am happy to stock.

Andy.

Have no experience of these tyres but have done a lot of research on them and they are highly rated by most people who have bought them. Check out this link for example http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredeste...xtreme.htm.

Seems also that Vredestein tyres were Auto Express' No1 tyre for 3 years in a row (http://www.tyremen.co.uk/vredestein_tyres.html)

Took the plunge and bought a set for my HSE (255/55 19s) from Andy at AJS4x4. Just waiting now for them to be delivered to me via the D3 Courier Service Network Thumbs Up .
Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills Smile

Our local tyre independant was pushing Vredesteins when I popped in on Saturday morning. The owner runs Wintrac 4 Extremes all year round on his RRS and highly recommends them. 10 - 15% cheaper than Scorpions or Wranglers (for 18") and they look alright as well. Dex.
