First clean - stubborn wheels! |
|
Well I finally gave my D3 it's first clean, traditionally I don't believe in cleaning my cars but after a few months I thought why not - though it does spoil the "used off-road" look!
Anyway, the alloys are impossible to get clean, they were really, really dirty and after getting the superficial dust off I noticed small black specks stuck to the alloy, they look/feel like tar, very difficult to remove. How easy is it to damage the alloys with an abrasive? Anyone else had this problem?

use petrol to get the tar off, or buy specific tar remover from someone like autoglym 2014 D4 XS

If you don't clean regularly the brake dust bakes on.
You could try oven cleaner. Don't leave on too long though. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I found the best stuff for removing baked on brake dust is a cleaner called "super clean". spray it on neat and leave for a couple of mins then wash with more diluted and rinse off. comes up a treat then and with very little hard work, wont remove tar spots tho. try dw40 again leave for a couple of mins, aggitate ,and then wash off, but i do recommend polishing after tho as this will help the next time.
