Tyre pressure + tintent towing |
|
OK, stupid question and I have tried search and had 4671 results....must learn to use search better
When you're towing a tintent do you increase the tyre pressures (eg to full load as in handbook)
D3 will be lightly loaded with 3 adults and 1 dog so say a load of 200kg.
Tintent maybe 1400kg
Any answers gratefully recieved it's just that I don't want to keep inflating/deflating when tintent is off
PS D3 is on standard Goodyear Wranglers (18") Club RLD spare wheel protection
Club RLD skid plate
Club its all black
Club D3 - it's gone
Club D4 - just arrived and still all black

Personally I leave my AT2s at 33 front,36 rear even towing up to 3500kg (and above at times).
Book suggests 42 psi on the rear for heavy loads but 1400kg wouldn't bother the D3. Chipped, K&N, tow pack, AT2's, Mantec, fridge in boot, invertor, Garmin, laptop/Memory Map, Optima yellow top, Traxide Kit, Phillips Extreme bulbs

Don't you just love this site (in a man sort of way)
Cheers chaps, leaving pressures as standard was my thought cos last time we took the tintent out I increased pressures and then didn't like the ride. Never increased in the old D1 days.

Not knowing anything about tintenting, but it seems to me that the weight of the caravan itself shouldn't affect the pressures you need - surely it's going to be the nose weight you apply to the towbar that matters. If you're at the 150kg limit, that's going to be equivalent to a couple of adults in the back row seats - would you raise the pressures then?
I've always tried to follow the book and raise the pressures when heavily loaded: a recent trip to the garage suggests this may be why my tyres are measurably thinner in the middle, so perhaps I shouldn't bother...

As above You could stick the jockey wheel on a set of bathroom scales to measure the trailer nose weight. Most really heavy things tend to be pretty balanced anyway (twin axles etc).
I go buy a simple rule (cowboy). If I can lift the hitch with one hand, then it's probably less weight than an adult in the back, so I don't bother changing my pressures. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

I usually increase mine, but then we have 2 adults 2 kids, 5 dogs and an awning! My advice would be to see how it feels. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

different tyre types can also affect ride. On my 19" alloys and tyres, I didnt change the rear pressures with tintent on the back, but with the 20"'s on, I felt like I could feel some movement when towing at "normal" pressure (36), so upped them to 40 and it was much better.
