He also says there more expensive but will let me have them for the same price.

NO
Insist on the correct size, dealer is trying it on I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

its not just size, its weight rating as well, as usually 255/50s will be rated at 106 or 109 (oe even 103), which is too low for the D3.

there will be a -3.34% difference. So at 70mph you will be doing 67.66mph.
this is useful site for explaining everything tyre related http://www.carbibles.com/tire_bible.html
There may also be an insurance issue if you have an accident Duncan

I didnt look at the Load index, but I had that in mind.
I was aware that they would under read as well - was going to use it as a an excuse when I got pulled for speeding
I was looking on Goodyears web side and couldnt find that size listed.
Ok, will ring him back and say no thanks
Thanks

So having just bolted 275/45/20 onto the D3 will the speedo be giving me a false reading?

not by much, as 275/45x20's are the closest 20's to 255/55x19s (standard HSE tyre). When your speedo reads 70mph, you'll be doing 69.3

However once again keep them away from the load index might be lower than you think

I have cancelled them, might just go for ATR's in the correct dimension if the dealer can get them.
