Another tyre(ing) question 255/55 R19
I have done some reading here and bothered Andy at AJS but as he cannot ship to me and my tyres are only just legal, I need to act.
The Pirelli Zero's in 255/55R19 are almost shot. The D3 wanders on the road, the stealer has checked all the bushings etc, checked the tracking and has concluded that the wandering is due to worn out tyres.
So my local tyre pusher can help me with the following.
He highly recommends
Michelin Latitude tour.
He can also supply me
Goodyear Wrangler HP AW
Vredestein ultratrac SUV Sennssata.
I need pure road tyres as I have a set of Goodyear MTR's coming for off-road use. I have dedicated winter tyres for winter use (Pirelli).
My needs are good grip in the rain (hence my nick) as it does rain a lot here in Bergen.
I drive about 10000 miles a year mainly A-roads, my priority are low noise, good wear resistance, and wander free tyres.
The price difference is only £20 a corner.

When I ran them I found the Wrangler to be a good road tyre with good wear rate.
Had 2 sets....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

They will last longerend of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

For a pure highway tyre the Vredestein might fit your needs. Should be good value for money too.
I have the Latitudes myself. Can't say anything bad about it. Do the job well and wear slowly.

i swapped the pirellis as soon as they wore out and that was way too quick for my liking
went for the good year wrangerlers as had them on my TD5 before i swapped to AT2's
and the good year lasted well handled worked well in wet and lasted so far i done about 20k and still have 50-60% tread left
and i dont drive like miss daisy i travel all round the south west and wales with full load most of time on all sorts of road
if they did AT2's for 19" i would have them 70K on my TD5
so my vote is Good Year HP as the dont do AT2's yet

Having used both Pirelli & Goodyear as on- road tyres, I found that the Pirelli's gave superior wet & dry grip & steering feel/response.
The Pirelli's are a slightly softer compound, which accounts for the better grip etc. But of course means they wear a little quicker than the Goodyears.
Currently I'm running Pirelli ATR's, which are only fractionally inferior on the road to the Zero's, but better than the Goodyears HP.
Just my opinion, others will no doubt disagree, but driving styles vary!

I currently have one axle of Pirelli Zero, and one of Pirelli ATR. I got the ATRs after a double puncture in the original zeros, with them having very few miles on them, so they're all similar mileage. The ATRs seem to behave on road as well as the zeros, and slightly better off road. There's a (subjective!) increase in road noise of just a couple of percent.
The ATRs don't look like they've worn much in the 6000 miles they've been on together, whereas the zero's are looking quite jaded, especially around the shoulders. I estimate I have perhaps another 10K from the zeros before they hit 3mm, but I can't predict the ATRs yet as they haven't yet worn enough.
Suffice to say I'll be sticking with the excellent ATRs in future, but that's not on your poll...Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Vredestein every time for me!
Ive got them on a 3.0ltr Quattro and used the car thro the winter and I was more than impressed. They coped with the cold, wet and even the snow! I will be putting them on my Z4 when the Bridgestones are kapput.
The D3 has wintracs on and they drive just like a road tyre.

I wouldn't run winter tyres during the summer particularly on long journeys.
It's an old article, but winter tyres are still manufactured to remain "soft" at low temperatures & aren't suited to long journeys on hot roads at high speed i.e motorways.

Has anyone tried any of the "cheaper" 19" tyres? I need to buy a set after spending a fortune on two sets of Scorpion Zeros in only 20k miles, and although I have found them to be good on road, I can't afford to keep replacing them so soon. I need something longer lasting, or cheaper to replace.
I found the Hankooks at £97 each and the Toyo Proxes at £135
They both look like quite nice tread patterns, and more aggressive than some 100% road tyres, might even be ok off road maybe? Anyone used them?D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)
