Can I change width of tyres

Hi I have currently , 255/55/17s all round.
I have been offered very cheep a couple of 275/55/17,
I was going to put these on the back and then look for some more.

Will this cause any problems having different widths?

You shouldn't have any problems provided their on the same axle.

Just make sure the load rating is 110 or above.

Going mad

Sorry responders, going potty.
Has on it 255/55/18s, even they are the wrong ones according to the book.

Should be 255/60/18 is that correct?

You might want to be cautious on the first changeout. I had 2 x MTRs on the back and 2 x Pirelli Zeros on the front (all 4 same size). On smooth bitumen roads it was okay, but once on a rough bitumen, the D3 went a bit feral, with stability control light flashing and it wanted to swap ends. Put back on 4 x Pirelli Zeros and okay. Re-tried 2 x MTRs and 2 x Pirellis and same problem. I surmise it is because of slightly different rolling circumferences, which confuse the stability control into thinking the front is going faster than the back.

There's always the slight chance of your insurers kicking up a fuss, if you had an accident as a result of a tyre failure. If they spotted that you had a different size to the manufacturers standard.

Unless of course you told them first & they approved it.

Personally, I stick to the correct sizing. If tyre costs are an issue for you, then keep your eyes peeled on ebay.

thats the tyre size used on the RRS, so probably under spec'd weight wise as well.

18's on the D3 should be 255/60x18 rated at 112.
