Intermittant park brake fault

Hi all Smile

Christmas morning after a drive to mum's I got back in the car and the EPB wouldnt release.

Message read "park brake fault" so I released it manually and drove home with the red handbrake light flashing at me.

I got back in the car an hour later and the EPB worked fine. This happened again the next day and then this morning I was driving along and the same fault appeared on the dash for about 10 mins then all ok again.

No squealing or any other noises from the EPB.

I don't have the facility to read fault codes and the Indy's are shut until next week.

I am assuming its electrical but wonder if anyone knows if it is likely to be as simple as the switch going faulty or is there a usual cause?

I don't know if its related or not but my reverse sensors stopped working properly for a few hours yesterday and just produced continuous tone although they are now working again.

The car has gone through three N/S rear brake light bulbs in the last few weeks so I was wondering if there is a common connector for all of these which needs sorted?

Well, replaced the switch and that isn't the culprit Sad

I did read somewhere on here that there is an electrical connector somewhere which often goes but can't find the thread so if anyone has idea's I will be eternally grateful.

Try http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic97249.html

I also replaced the switch to try and fix my intermittent non-apply/release issue - replacing the wiring on the rear connector sorted it.

JMack, I replaced the EPB switch itself, the one you pull/push by the gear lever.

I called into my Indy this afternoon to get the fault codes read and there was no specific fault code relating to the issue showing although my clutch sensor was showing itself as faulty which can cause similar issues.

They were aware of the information you kindly posted and mentioned it to me Martin so I think that is the avenue to explore. Many thanks for the link to your earlier thread which I hadn't seen.

I now have that thread and a technical bulletin supplied by Cheviot 4x4 to read so best get the kettle on!

Thanks all, I'll let you know how I progress Thumbs Up

All sorted at last..... the culprit was the clutch sensor.
