ABS kicking in on NSF wheel while turning right

I couldn't find a thread with a similar problem, so here goes.

Occasionally when turning right, but mainly when going round a roundabout, the NSF wheel feels like the ABS kicks in briefly and the Disco slows quite a bit.
No lights flash up, and it's ok again in an instant, but it's happening more regularly - I've had it since Feb, and started happening about 2 weeks ago. There's a lot of roundabouts where I live. Laughing

Any ideas please?

Cheers

Sounds like traction control, though normally you get a yellow light on the dash when it kicks in.

Have you had the tracking or any suspension work done recently? It can be just that you need to recalibrate the steering angle sensor. Find a flat level surface (not the side of the road as the camber can affect it), reverse while not holding the steering wheel which should centre the steering, then with your diagnostic tool tell the ECU to calibrate the steering angle sensor. Now you can do this on a four wheel tracking jig but in practice setting it by the reversing method works well enough.

Check that wheel's temperature at the end of a journey (just thinking of binding brake calliper but only when turning). Be careful - they get warm even under normal usage. Just make sure that one is not a lot hotter.

Just a suggestion Whistle

Good luck Thumbs Up

Thanks for the quick replies.

I haven't had any work done, and checked the tyre pressures recently after having a repair done to NSR tyre as found a screw in it. So far it's only happened on short journeys, but will check the caliper after going to work tonight.

I'll give the steering position setup a go too, as have an IID tool.

Is it worth turning off the DSC to see if it stops it?

yeah turn the DSC off.

Check the rear calipers, that one side isn't hotter than the other.

Try everything, DSC off included.

If I may, having chased complex or annoying faults on industrial machinery and cars, just get yourself a bit of a notepad going of what you have (and maybe have not) tried, plenty on here will try to help you and before long you will be asking yourself "have I already done that?".

Is the Disco crabbing (pulling off to one side on a decent flat road surface)?

Add it to the list Thumbs Up

Cheers again, I'll try the suggestions ASAP, as on nights from tonight for the next 4.

Kilovolt, I'm from an engineering background myself, so agree with your suggestion about notes. Thumbs Up

Update.

The DSC symbol has been flashing, so tried it with DSC off and as expected, it stops the issue.
All calipers normal/similar temps after a 20 minute drive through twisty roads averaging about 40MPH with regular brake use.
I have had the BCM red warning light come on 3 times with suspension lowered and 30MPH speed warning, but resets after cycling the ignition when I stop. A fault shows up on the GAP tool for cross articulation too.
I haven't had a chance to check steering sensor calibration or height calibration yet, but will hopefully do it tomorrow or Friday.

Faulty (stiff) suspension level sensor and or SAS calibration/loose sensor ring on steering shaft.

I found the fault....

The rear NS upper wishbone has collapsed.

I was doing a calibration while in work tonight, and it went t!ts up with settings all over the place. The NSR wheel was at an angle and it had gone into extended mode.
I knew the arm had some corrosion and I have a new arm to go on which I was going to do in a couple of weeks, but I didn't think it was that bad that it would collapse which is why I've still been driving it.

I'm now having it recovered from work and will be getting my mate to do it at his garage, instead of me doing it at my lockup. Censored Censored

Well today I managed to get the rear left upper arm off with a recip saw and grinder. It was in a right mess and I've never seen one that corroded.
All arms and air shocks are original so have lasted over 140,000 miles.
It should hopefully be fitted by the end of the day with new brake pipes too.

While it was on the lift we noticed the other side wasn't quite as bad, but definitely needs changing, so I've ordered another one to fit while it's in the garage. Censored ££££

Wow, Ok wouldn't have thought of that!

Its amazing how often we get tied up in complex solutions when going back to basics is the way forward.....

Well, that's both upper rear arms changed, and no more warning lights. Thumbs Up

The right arm was a lot easier to do, and I only had to cut 1x bolt off as the other 2 came undone.
I used a cheaper aftermarket arm and fitting kit as there are far less right arms available than left for some weird reason. I used a Borg & Beck on the left, but couldn't get one for similar price on the right.
It seems they cut costs using a cheaper fitting kit, as the arm to hub assembly bolt (for camber) snapped when torqueing up, so had use the original bolt with the new nut. I'll be getting a good quality fitting kit after next payday.

Even this small change has made a difference to the ride.
I had a look back through the MOT's before I got the car, and not even an advisory on these arms, which is crazy, as there's no way they went that quick from December 23 to now!

Next will be the bottom bushes I think, and then the fronts.
