Question about detachable towbar seating?

I have 2013 D4 that I have just bought a refurbed Land Rover detachable tow bar and have a query because I'm not sure it's seating properly. The tow bar operates ok, it retracts the large tit and extends the small one as per, however when you push it up the orifice it seems to go all the way up but the large tit that should secure it does not reach, or seat into the slot that appears to be there for it, is it the wrong bit of kit, or is it OK, trawled the forum. can't see anyone who's had this before, any help really appreciated.

Make sure the hole and the towbar are clean. Apply a little grease to the surfaces, and make sure you push it in hard. Get a mallet and give a few hits to make sure it’s seated. If you can’t see any red on the handle markings, and you can turn and extract the key, it’s probably ok.

Thanks for that, I can turn and extract the key ok, but why is the hole there if it's not to be used to accept the larger spring loaded , shaped bar? I'll have it off again tomorrow and look again, I did smear sone copper slip on the surfaces before inserting. Thanks again!

Off the car pushing the small pin In should make lock flick round and the D shaped pin fly out. The green handle should not turn any further and the key comes out. Reset the lock.

Clean the mating surfaces of rust and only wipe a thin film of oil on them. Line up a slide the hook up firmly and the lock handle should flick round again. A small amount of twist to set the lock home to remove the key easily is acceptable but a lot or you can’t get the key out means it is not seated.

Do not leave in the towbar when not in use. That way you are checking it every time you use it.
