Does removing spacers affect alignment? |
|
Hi everyone. I have recently had a new set of Yokohama Geolandars fitted to my Discovery 3. I also had the car tracked and it's driving great. Unfortunately the previous owner fitted approx 1 inch spacers all round. It's annoying because it's impossible to keep the car clean, as it throws water up the sides. I assume that extra 1 inch each side is the cause, or do these cars naturally throw water and dirt up the body sides from the front wheels? Firstly, if I remove the spacers, is the car likely to stay cleaner?
Secondly, and more importantly, would removing the spacers affect alignment and would I need to get the car tracked again?
Thanks in advance.

My D3 came with 3mm spacers, which I removed. Counter-intuitively, it feels more stable without them and it is possibly now more legal, as the 3mm exceeded the width of the wheel arches. I hadn't particularly noticed a problem of mud up the sides - I'm not a clean freak and rarely wash cars - but I guess it probably is cleaner now without the spacers. I didn't get the tracking redone and it feels better without the spacers.
I do confess, though, that it looked better with the spacers and I guess an alternative solution might be to look for wider wheel arches.
EDIT: That should, of course be 30 mm spacers! Thanks to loanrangie below for correcting this! Previously:

Worms, i assume you mean 30mm as 3mm wouldn't do squat.

Loanrangie, yes, absolutely! It was Slapbassman's "about an inch" that threw my order of magnitude out! Previously:
