Manual tailgate release latch
Hi all
What are peoples thoughts on the tailgate release latch available from Land rover passion?
Is it worth fitting? What is the risk of the actuator falling, is it a medium or high probability? Cost is approx 40 euro, but cost of postage to New Zealand is approx 40 euro (so 80 euro total).
Thanks Blake

Wait until you can’t open the tailgate with dogs, cats or other perishables in there and work out it’s value! The other option is to replace the lock as soon as it starts playing up but the cost will be about the same (and you may not get a warning)
Have you asked Brendan (Leeds) if he can ship it any cheaper?I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Naki, go to your local hardware or ebay and buy a recliner seat release lever and a good length of bike brake cable and make your own for less than $50.

Thanks Loanrangie
That looks almost identical to the LRP one. I've got an old lawn mower throttle cable that will do the trick for the cable.
Cheers Blake (from the "Naki")
Thanks to Nige as well.

I can get the exact recliner release handle and cable for $18NZ on Trademe (NZ equivalent of EBay). Brilliant!

Hello, well I'm into week 3 of D3 ownership and have just spent 5 hours today trying to fix the EPB, all I achieved in 5 hours was that I removed 7 pf the 8 screws holding the cover on.
Anyway, I have that kit and am going to fit it tomorrow. When I was researching the D3 I saw it and thought it would be a good mod to have just in case and does allow you to open the tailgate from inside if you need that option, camping in thew car say.
Anyway for the cost and the relative ease of installation I thought it would be good and it does provide a very good finish, much better than anything I could do.
Just my opinion.

The LRP kit is well made, instructions are very good and all in all is value for money.
Yes, it’s possible to do the same without their kit. Not everyone is that level DIY, however.

Iv got that exact kit sitting here waiting on me to install it, currently not using our k9 double dog cage incase of rear lock failure. With the cage inside we would have no way of getting them out.

I finished the install this weekend and it looks very good and works well, so I'm very happy with it.
I'm not a DIY expert but as mentioned the instructions are very clear and Powerful UK did a video on installing it too, so watching that and reading the instructions and it was all good.
I didn't rush and did it over a few weeks so no pressure.
Have a go.

Apparently you can open the lower tailgate by flicking the catches open on the inside of the tailgate.
I've watched the video on Youtube but not tried it yet.

Yes you can but it only works if the top is open already.

No, it opens the top. The latch for the top tailgate is in the lower tailgate.

I did a very similar emergency option to Famousfive on my D3 using large cable ties.
It worked brilliantly, but thankfully I never had to use it in anger.
Over the weekend I finally got around to ordering the kit mentioned above to fit to my D4.
I think as the cars get older it's got to be on the must list of mods.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
