Discovery 4 Alcantara ebony / black headliner swap retrim
Hello all, just thought I’d document this modification for people in future wanting to do the same.
Firstly I’ve bought a secondary full upper interior from the breakers yard consisting of:
.A,b,c & D pillars (with rear speakers)
.x1 Headliner
.X2 sunvisors
.X1 Motion sensor unit cover
.X1 boot upper trim with light
.X2 centre map reading light units
I’ve done this so I can swap it all over in a day as the re trimming can take a while so it’s easier when installing I can remember where everything goes. Only issue I had was finding a headliner with the rear entertainment headphone Bluetooth module, so this had to get retrofitted before sending off to the trimmers with the A B & C pillars
What some people don’t know is the RR sport l320 shares a lot of interior trim with the D4 and they manufactured these in ebony/black for the sport, so I got from LR the following
The sunvisor vanity mirrors are fairly common units and unclip from the visor, I got some replacement black ones from a Citroen DS3 and soldered them in.
The third row reading lights can be found in black from a Ford focus etc.
All other parts will be getting rubbed down and painted Matt black
Pictures to follow. Hopefully fitting February 2024

Very interesting. I was going to do this job and got 6 x grab handles from a Kuga - they're the same as well.
However, I've since decided to move up to a new D5 so I'm just about to sell my Disco 3 to a mate who might want to do this job, so I'll keep him informed and follow.2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

Bit of a photo update, got all the replacement headliner and trims from a breakers called Derby Vehicles who’s communication is about as good as my 1year old son. Nether the less got them home & whilst the headliner, sunvisors and pillars are with Matt Harrington Auto Trimmers I’ve managed to paint the following:
X2 courtesy light housings
alarm sensor
rear speaker pillars
seat belt trims
A pillar airbag trims
C Pillar bolt covers
I Rubbed them all down with a coarse scotch pad, then painted with a Halfords plastic primer, sanded that with a fine sanding sponge also from Halfords. Then painted in Matt Black for an OEM finish.
The upper boot/tailgate courtesy light panel and B pillar seatbelt surround has been wrapped in 3M Matt black for a more durable finish.

After a long wait from initially starting the modification, I’ve finally installed it!!! Only took 6.5hours, just missing the passenger sunvisor which is currently awaiting glue to set.

Fantastic job, well done.
[is there a reason for not blackening the rearmost roof trim ? ]
That's something I would've loved on my D4, but probably just a job too much for my humble skills. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Just a few more pics now both sunvisors in, the trimmer re-trimmed them in 2 pieces so had to use clear gorrila glue to seal pick back together and wait 24hrs for it to set.
