Discovery 3 cutting out after fuel filter change plus P2290- |
|
Afternoon All
Bit of background if I may,
My 2007 Disco 3 has been great for the last 20k but it started developing the usual bongs and dings and safe mode from a P2290-00 Code. I have been working low cost up so I changed the LPFP and all was good for a month. Then earlier this week I started to get sluggish performance gain. So I thought I would spring for an expensive OEM fuel filter which I have done but changing it this AM it now wont start or will start briefly and then cuts out.
I have ruled out the LPFP going poop again
I now have the genuine filter on, swapping back to the old pattern part symptoms are the same.
injector values last week were good at idle, nothing out of the ordinary.
I have disconnected the flow and return lines from the filter housing to the HPFP and proved I have good delivery up to the pump.
I am getting fuel to the rails and to the injectors.
The next thing I was going to do was a leak off test but cant do that if the car isnt running.
The codes I am getting when it does start then cuts out are again this P2290-00 code.
I am concluding the High pressure is toast and changing the fuel filter put enough air in to just push it over the edge despite me bleeding it over and over before starting.
Any thoughts, guidance advice welcome before I drop either a few quid or a litre of petrol on it.
Cheers All

For the sake of closing this thread for others.
I replaced the fuel filter housing from the pattern part I had to fit from amazon when i broke the Original part during the tank removal to replace the LFP with an OEM part with OEM filter and this allowed the system to bleed properly and the car kept running and was running well. it also cured the water in fuel fault.
until....
Drove 20 miles and same fault occurred with the F transmission etc etc with the system throwing a fuel pressure fault.
So tonight I changed the HPFP and whilst not a great job to do it appears immediately a lot better, time will tell but in true disco style I need to fix the brakes first as I now have sticking front calipers and they are burning up as I drive. (Awesome)
All the best & safe driving.
