sunroof retrofit
Hi All,
Need some advice / guidance.
I have a complete D3 HSE spec car with engine problem and another one, which has super low mileage D3 S model - low spec. So, the idea came to retrofit as many nice HSE gadgets as just possible.
Is there any experience / even possible to retrofit factory sunroof ? As I see from microcat the roof panel should be replaced; are the required looms already there - or extra cabling needed ? Switch panel has to be checked ? what else ?
Any advice appreciated
Robert

Hey Robert,
Would it not be easier just to transplant the engine ? I doubt very much that the loom would be there on an S model (but it may be), personally I wouldn’t bother with the sunroof as I’ve had them on cars before and maybe used them twice also if you want to fit the exped rack then you may have issues with it opening in any event! (Better to drop something onto a metal roof than a glass panel!).
If you do go ahead then plenty of photos please I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Don't bother with a sunroof, less chance of water inside the car without a sunroof! Richard

I've seen it many times on here, and thought it myself on many occasions:
The ideal spec of D3/4 is HSE or above, BUT without the sunroof.
I purchased my D3 HSE in 2010 and replaced it with a D4 HSE Lux in 2019.
I think I had the sunroof open twice on the D3, and have yet to do more than check it works on the D4.
However, I spent many hours sorting out leaks, blocked pipes, perished pipe ends etc on the D3 along with regular preventative maintenance on the D3 and now D4.
My advise, like others, is forget the sunroof and make sure the aircon works.
Fit some window deflectors and crack the windows open if you must have a draught.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
