Body removal - auto box

Hello everyone, I’m in the process of removing the body on my 2005 disco 3 to get at the turbo. I’ve followed Disco Mickey’s excellent guide and I think I’m almost there. I’ve done all the steps listed and finally removed the ten mounting bolts, but it doesn’t appear to be separating. Mine is an auto box, I’ve removed the gear knob. Is there anything else to do around the gear selector area as it seems to be holding in that area? Thanks

The gear selector cable needs disconnecting under the car. On the side of the gearbox.

The park brake emergency release cable needs the grommet pulling out

Thanks Pete,
I’ve removed the EPB cable.
So does the gear selector cable go up with the body once its unbolted on the side of the gearbox?

Yes it does.

I've changed the turbo with the body off and it makes the job much easier however you still have to lay underneath to get at the oil drain pipe which is a bit tricky but not too bad. I can't remember too many of the finer details as it was 11 years ago! Laughing

Got the body lifted last week. All credit to Disco Mikey for a superb how to guide!
Now trying to remove the turbo. Got everything loosened except one of the t30 torx screws on the lower oil pipe has rounded off and is stuck fast. I can only access it from underneath using an 1/4” drive 18”long extension bar. Really stuck as to what to do. Has anyone used one of those torx removal sets and are they any use? Normally I would cut a slot with my dremel and use a flathead driver but there is no room to get in about. Any suggestions gratefully received!

What about undoing the pipe at the other end. 1 bolt at sump.
You may need to sacrifice the pipe

Hi Pete, I couldn’t see where the oil pipe goes. Is it just one bolt at the sump ? Could I then remove the turbo with the lower oil pipe still attached?
Thanks,
Will

Yeah into the sump.
That’s what I was thinking.

The pipe may get damaged

Cheers Pete, I’ll take a look tomorrow.
I would happily sacrifice the oil pipe just to get the turbo out.
I guess this is what happens if you take a 18 yr old disco apart.

I lightly hammer torx or sockets onto bolts to get thru the rust/crust layer, before trying to undo. To ensure full engagement
